Nostalgie Cafe, Stewart Lane

There is a new place in town and it is called Nostalgie Cafe. It is situated along Steward Lane just nearby to Coffee Atelier. The place caught my eyes as I was passing by it one day. It had a lovely heritage door and lovely lanterns hanging in front. So today I made my way there to cari makan.

As I walked in the place, the thing that caught my eye was the design of the carvings of the room divider that had divided the long walkway. With the courtyard in the middle of the place, the sunlight had given the place a nice cosy contemporary feeling and gave that heritage look of how life was back then in this house. As I chatted to the owners, I got to know that there will soon be rooms upstairs to rent (hotel). The style of the rooms would be contemporary heritage style.

So what does Nostalgie Cafe serve? Well I shall begin now with what I tried.

First up, Rocket and Tomato Salad

This salad had rocket salad, lettuce and cherry tomatoes tossed with vinaigrette and topped with a generous helping of feta cheese. Loved how the sourness and saltiness from the cheese combined.

Second up, Teriyaki Chicken Burger

This was more of a sandwich than a burger actually. It had chunks of marinated teriyaki chicken meat, sliced tomato, lettuce, onions and some mayonnaise like sauce in it. The combination of its ingredients gave a very nice taste that one bite of it makes you want more. Not for those who are on a diet though as you will be craving for more!!! The potato wedges on the other hand was nice and crispy and just about the right amount of salt.

Third up, Beef Bacon Cheese Sandwich

If you are a bacon-cheese person, you will love this. Sandwich comes with slices of beef bacon stuffed rocket salad, tomato and a slice of melted cheese. Simple and nice.

Fourth up and still going strong, Prawns and Rocket Pizza

This pizza was something new for me as it had fresh rocket salad served in the middle of the pizza. Pizza had a tomato base to it. Something like the Margarita pizza, but it had also slices of red chilly in it. There were 7 juicy and succulent prawns placed nicely on each pizza slice. Pizza dough which was homemade was thin and crispy. Loved it.

Fifth, Chicken and Basil Pesto Linguine

I am a pasta fan when it comes to Pesto. So I had to try this dish out. How did it taste??

Well I must say it was indeed good to the last lick. It had a nice strong basil pesto taste and olive oil. But what is nice here is that you also get that nutty feeling and taste in the sauce. When I asked the chef, he mentioned that he had blended in walnuts in the sauce. Not forgetting that it also had fresh olives and cherry tomatoes in the pasta. I must say this Basil Pesto Linguine out beats the other restaurants that I have tried in Penang. Now about the chicken served here, at first I was "oh no chicken breast meat" when I saw it on the plate....but everything changed as I took a bite of it. The chicken breast was cooked just right. It was juicy and well marinated. What more it went well with the pasta.

Last up, Carrot Cake

Now this is a MUST try for all you carrot cake lovers out there. This cake served here was so moist, nutty, cinnamon-ish and cheesy on the top. Words cannot say how good it tasted, so go there yourself and try it out and let me know. This is one of their signature specialty. A MUST try I repeat! It would be a sin if you never tried this.

My lunch here was satifying. Walked out here so full and satisfied. So would I come back here again? My answer would be, certainly YES.

Amelie Cafe Part II

Here is part II of Amelie Cafe.

If you have read my previous post on Amelie, this is the continuation of it after I visited the place again. Actually thinking back, I am pratically coming back here every weekend. If not, it is at least once in 2 weeks.

In my other visits, tried out a few of their pasta dishes. My most favourite one would be the Laksa Pasta. Laksa and pasta??? That was exactly the reaction of my friends that came with me that day when Laksa Pasta was on the today's special. Being the adventourous one, I ordered it and till today I am still craving for it. It is a two thumbs up for me. The dish is dry and not soupy. The pasta (Fettuncini pasta) is served with a thick lemak laksa gravy topped with a lot of fish meat. The smell...ahhh it was so frangrant and appetising. Loved it so much.

Tuna and Pineapple Pasta

If you are a tuna person, you would like this pasta dish. It is a creamy base pasta where you have the tuna, pineapple and cream mixed together with some herbs and cheese. It is alright for me with room for improvement as it is missing the "kick" or "Ommphness" in it. Maybe perhaps more cream and herbs to intensify the taste. Something was just missing in this.

Aglio Olio Pasta

It had bits of dried chilly and pork luncheon meat in it with olive oil taste to it. Not forgetting it had a very strong peppery taste to it. Something interesting to try out if you are not a creamy pasta person.

Bolognaise Pasta

A friend of mine had this, she was not satisfied with it...so I took a bit to try out. Taste wise, it was rather bland. The intensity of that tomato herby flavour taste was not there. Needs room for improvement.

Big Breakfast

This was ordered by my dad one morning when we went there for breakfast. It had two eggs (your choice of having it scrambled, half boiled or sunny side up), bacon slice, jam and two slices of wholemeal bread. Not forgetting some fruits on the side. Dad finished this up with a big smile on his face.

Yogurt fruit granola

This is a very healthy breakfast meal to take. It had granola (somekind of oat) mixed with fruits (watermelon, banana and starfruit), dried fig, almond, walnut and raisins topped with fresh plain yogurt. Really a healthy way to start your day.

Passion Fruit and Banana Yogurt Smoothie

This is my favourite. Another two thumbs up. It is very refreshing and good. Has that sourness yet sweet taste to it. Loved it.

Jackfruit Yogurt Smoothie

Jackfruit is my biggest enemy so I stayed away from trying this drink out. But my friend who ordered it said it was alright. It had that jackfruit smell and taste in it. Good for those jackfruit lovers...something interesting, who would have thought a "jackfruit yogurt smoothie" to drink.

So this is all I have to write about. Hope to try out more wonderfull dishes yet to be served from Amelie. Till then, do visit this lovely place. It is so cute and cozy. Come in the morning where it is not so hot.

GEM Restaurant

Tried out this place a month ago. It is an Indian Restaurant along Bishop Street (corner or King Street). They serve Northern and Southern Indian Cuisine. Came here only once and found that the food here is pretty pricey. Taste wise, I much prefer Karaikudi restaurant.

But anyways I shall just briefly explain the dishes I had at Gem. It may be a bit simple as I kinda lost my bill receipt which had the name of the dishes.

Dragon Chicken
It is boneless chicken cooked with a mixture of spices and topped with cashewnuts. It sort of had a spicy-sweet-tomato flavour to it.

Garlic Naan
This is always my favourite to have when at an Indian Restaurant. The nann here, had pieces of garlic but it was not strong in its garlic flavour. I would have liked it better if it had that greesy garlic buttery flavour on the naan.

Mutton Briyani
About 2 people can share the briyani rice here. Taste was good and so was the mutton.

Mutton Vindaloo
This was a bit spicy for me. It is mutton cooked with a variety of spices and served with a fiery hot vindaloo curry.

Kashmiri Pulao Rice
The rice (Basmati rice) was flavoured and had fruits in it...apple, sweet cheeries and raisins. It also had nuts, long beans and fried onions. It did not quite suit me as I found the apples and sweet cheeries were totally not a match for this rice dish.

Palaak Paneer
This has always been a favourite for me. Perhaps because I'm a cheese lover. Palak Paneer is a dish which has Goat's Cheese (Cottage Cheese) cooked in a rich creamy sauce which is actually creamy spinach puree. But as I first mentioned, this dish at Karaikudi taste better.

Yogurt
I've forgot what the name of this sauce is called. It's yogurt mixed with chopped onions and cucumber. Great to have it with meats and briyani rice.

Drinks we had Mango Lassi and Pineapple lassi. Lassi drink was nice and thick.

Coffee Lane

A new coffee place which I tried out last weekend. Place is called Coffee Lane. It is along King Street in town.What caught my attention here was the different tools used to make the coffee drink. One of it would be the Syphon Brewing Coffee. Just imagine your in a science class now.
What looks like to be is a bunsen burner, a round glass flask, and a standing thong thing. It is all about heat and pressure.

Syphon Coffee

1. In the round glass flask, water is filled and placed under a bunsen fire. Before it starts boiling, another long glass flask, with a long glass stem, containing the ground coffee beans is being placed into the round glass flask.2. The fire starts and slowly you see the water boiling, then suddenly (some sort of pressure) the water is being pushed up through the glass stem of the long glass.

3. The water is then mixed together with the ground coffee beans when the person gives a stir. Then the fire is switched off.

4. Next thing you know you have your brewed coffee coming down back to the round glass flask. Pretty cool actually.

The Syphon Coffee, is served black and it is up to you if you want sugar and milk in it.

Ice Cream Coffee

Now this is my favourite. In a glass filled with vanilla ice-cream, a drip coffee method using paper filter is placed on top of the cup. Of course there is ground coffee beans inside already. Hot water is then poured and slowly the water and ground coffee mixture drips down to the cup containing the ice cream. It takes less than 3 minutes to have the cup all filled up with the coffee mixture. Then you give it a stir, get the coffee and ice cream mixed up. It is sooooooo good. It is not so sweet (just nice) and has a nice slight bitter taste to it. Lovely. Two thumbs up for this.

Besides coffee, this place also serves food such as sandwiches, salad, noodles, cakes, cookies and some other light snacks. The day I came, they ran out of cakes. Owner said that they had no time to make their cakes (homemade), so since I just came from lunch, we ordered 2 cookies and Ti Nya Kuih.

Cookie flavour was Almond and Chocolate chip with nuts.

The Ti Nya Kuih having a pandan flavour was good. It was smooth and had a spongy texture to it. This was also homemade by the owners mother-in-law.

While chilling out here, I gave a peek at the other tables who had ordered food. The triple decker sandwich which two tables had ordered looked really good. The same goes to the salad they had. Guess in my next visit here I shall order it together with my fav coffee ice cream.

Tarbush

Tarbush, a place I have been twice in this month. A friend and myself, came across it one night while we were walking around at Batu Feringghi. This restaurant it located just next to The Ship. From the main road you would not have guessed there is a makan place. The place is blocked by the small shops in front. But you can look out for this huge signboard. See pic above. There is a lot of car park for customers so don't worry if you cannot find a place to park.

Tarbush serves Arabic and Lebanese Delicacies. It is something different for me. In my first visit here, came here with my girlfriends. Since it was our first time here and we were not familiar with this kinda food, we took awhile to decide what to order. In the end, we had to get the waiter to recommend us what dishes to order. It was exciting to have that feeling of not knowing how it was gonna taste like. How did it go??? Well let's say we left the place feeling all satisfied with our bulging tummies. Food was good that I had to bring my parents over to try in the second trip. So below are what I have tried so far.

In chinese restaurants, you will get peanuts served on every table. Here at Tarbush, they will serve you Lebanese bread with pickles. But I should warn you about the pickles. They are EXTREMELY saltish. Please do not take the whole piece into your mouth. I warn you.

Appetizers

First of was something that I had ordered for myself. It was called Labneh. What made me order this was because the word cottage cheese caught my attention. But when it was served, I was so disapointed. Not that it was bad, but maybe just not what I expected it to be. On the menu it wrote "Cottage cheese drained through cheesecloth until thick and creamy then topped with dry mint leaves, olives and olive oil." I was thinking to myself it was gonna be something cheesey, saltish and cheesey-licious. But instead it was so sour and not saltish at all. It tasted more like a creamed up plain sour yogurt mixed with olive oil. I was confused, so very confused, how can this be an appetizer? Perhaps if it was a dip then it would have made sense. Anyways I shall not complain further as this cuisine is new to me.

Next appetizer was called Falafel. Falafel were actually patties formed from chickpeas combined with spring onions. It was deep fried and served with a sauce called Tahina which tasted like plain yogurt. It went well with the Falafel. The taste of the Falafel reminded me of the Indian Vadai minus the strong spice taste to it. Perhaps imagine a milder taste of a Vadai.

Addas
Had tried out 3 types of soup here. First of was their recommended soup called Addas. It was made from yellow lentil mixed with cumin and coriander. Taste wise, it was good. Rich and flavourfull in taste.

Lamb Soup
Had a strong lamb taste to it somewhat similiar to an Ox Tail soup. Perhaps spices used were about the same. A friend of mine said it tasted "curry-ish".

It was lovely. Had nice chunks of meat in it and strong cumin taste.

Salad called Tabouleh
A friend who did some research about the place before coming, ordered this salad dish called Tabouleh. It was a bowl full of chopped up parsley, tomatoes, cucumber and a touch of lemon juice. It had a very raw green taste to it. Some of my friends enjoyed it but for me, it was "tak boleh" for me. I could only take half a spoon of it.

Drink called Lemon Na Na
This drink was something unique. It 's lemon juice mixed together with blended mint leaves. It was very refreshing indeed. A must try if you are a mint leaf person.

Main course
Some of the main courses are more of a meat dish and anothers come with rice and meat. So I would recommend to share your main course so as to enjoy more dishes together. May I remind you that the dishes here are quite big in servings especially those which comes with rice. So sharing is good.

So first of, their recommended Mixed Grill whereby you have 3 types of meat and a stuffed lebanese bread. The 3 meats were called Shish Tawook, Shish Kebab and Lamb Cubes. Shish Tawook was made from boneless chicken breast marinated and grilled. The meat was tender and well marinated. Shish kebab on the other hand was minced season lamb grilled and shaped like a thumb. Absolutely delicious. The lamb cubes, or rather lamb chops, were wonderfully marinated and grilled. So very tasty. Wished I had more of it. The lebanese bread on the other hand, was stuffed with some minced lamb meat. It was so so only. Served together with this Mixed Grill was an interesting sauce which they call it Garlic Sauce. Imagine whipped cream that has a garlic taste to it....oohh wonderfull. Went so well with the meats.

Second dish was called Dawood Basha which had meat balls cooked with tomato gravy. This reminded me of meatballs in a bolognaise sauce.

Third dish was called Maklouba Lamb. This portion was huge. About 3 people could share the rice actually. It is said to be a famous Middle Eastern home cooked rice with eggplant and lamb chunks. Rice taste was alright but the lamb chunks were wonderfull. So very tender and tasty. Oh watch out for those peanuts on the rice too. It's nice and crispy.

Fourth dish was a kebab dish called Nashif. This was tried in my second visit here. It had a similiar taste with the Shish Kebab but it came served with tomato gravy. Tomato gravy was intensived with a lot tomato puree and had a touch of chilly to it.

Fifth dish was another kebab dish called Kebab Kash Kash. Could not differentiate the taste as it all tasted similiar to the other kebabs. Only difference here was that it was served with juicy grilled tomatoes. So actually all the lamb kebab dishes all tasted the same, it is just how it is served with.

Sixth dish, it was called Arayes Lamb. Reminds me of the Mexican Quesadillas. It had minced meat, onion and tomato stuffed in traditional grilled Lebanese bread. Not forgetting it had melted cheese inside too...REAL cheese. It was nice to eat it together with the kebab meat and the garlic sauce.

Briyani Rice
This was ordered as a side dish. Tasted like any Briyani rice would taste like.

Dessert
A good meal it not complete without some desserts. So this was what I tried.

Mahallabia.
The name of it does sound a bit funny since there is the word labia in it. Well anyways, if you like Jasmine smell and flavour, you would love this dessert. It is a creamy milk pudding garnished with chopped pistachio which had a strong Jasmine smell and taste to it. It tasted nice and creamy, but I could not stand the Jasmine smell. Sort of gave me a headache. My mum loved this, if she could, she would have licked up the whole bowl clean.

Baklawa
This is a traditional and not-to-miss Middle Eastern dessert which is made from pastry that is filled with nuts. Exteremely sweet I must say that I could not eat the whole piece up. The sweetness really goes shooting up to your head. I wonder how some people can eat this. If it was not so sweet, it would have been nice as there were alot of mashed up nuts in it.

Arabic Coffee
This was served uniquely in a pipelike instrument. Coffee was really think, strong and had a strong cumin taste. It was not so good to enjoy. But an interesting masak masak way of drinking your coffee.

Arabic Tea
Tea was put in a cute tea pot kettle like shape. Inside there was a tea bag and some mint leaves in the hot water.

So a good place to try out if you are looking for something different. Prices here are a bit pricey but portions are big so it can be worth paying. I for one would sure be coming back to this place again for more meaty dishes.

Amelie Cafe

Found a new food place along Armenian Street called Amelie Cafe. It is a few shops just before Eidelweiss. The place is adorable. From outside you would see a cute shop with lots of green plants nicely arranged with cute wooded signboards saying the time the shop is open and what they sell. Everything here has been recycled. When I first came here with my friend, we were like some girly girls going all gaga with the place. Everything about the place was so cute. See the pictures below to know what I mean.

Menu here is kept simple with simple breakfast meals and drinks. Then for a more heavier meal, they have their Today's Specials written on the wall. Another cute thing, they used the part of the wall repainted it into a blackboard. How cool is that.

Food here has its own signature way cooked and served. In my visit here last Saturday, we were the first customers to reach at 10 am. Below is what we had.

First of, as any basic breakfast there is always bread with butter and jam. This is called The Simple Toast. It comes with 2 slices of toasted Mix Grain Rye Bread served with the choice of spread (Butter, Kaya or Fruits Jam).

Or if you would like eggs with your bread, there is the Single Egg and Toast. It comes with 1 slice of toasted Mix Grain Rye Bread served with the choice of spread. (Butter, Kaya or Fruits Jam) and 1 egg of your choice. (soft boil, scramble or sunny side up. )

If you are more adventorous to try something out of the traditional butter and jam, they have their special toast called, Amelie Toast. It comes with 2 slices of toasted Mix Grain Rye Bread served with their special homemade Cinnamon Banana Yogurt. It is something unique. You have that banana taste and a slight yougurt taste to it. It is not sweet nor sour. And the cinnamon taste comes from the Cinnamon powder springkled on top.

Myself, I ordered the Focacia Tuna Sandwich which was on their today's special. I liked it alot. It was served with the focacia bread and tuna bits in it. But what gave a nice taste was that they had spread mayonaise and mustard on the tuna bits. So it had a salty, sour and herby taste in every bite you take.

Items that are on the Today's Special list is served throughout the day till 7pm. So on that day they had Roasted Honey Lemon Chicken, Aglia Olio pasta, Mexican Corn, Chocolate Almond Cake with ice cream and Portabello Mushroom Soup.

We tried out their Portabello Mushroom Soup and Chocolate Almond Cake. The Mushroom soup, well it was extremly thick with pureed mushrooms. It looked good, but taste wise, it was not up to what I expected it to taste. What I can say is that it was abit tasteless and all I could taste was the olive oil. Needs room for improvement here.

The Chocolate Almond cake was nice and chocolatey. It went nicely with the vanilla ice cream.

As for drinks, they have a page filled with drinks you can order. They have various coffee choices, tea, chocolate milk, fruit juice, soft drink beer and mineral water. We had ourselves caffe latte, hazelnut latte and hot mocha.

I think this place would do well. The owner said that so far business has been picking up. They get alot of backpackers coming in. However recently slowly locals are starting to come. But one thing he said, if you plan to eat here, come here with no other appointments to rush too. Reason is that he is a one man show to cooking everybody's orders. So it may take sometime for your meal to arrive. I would suggest, only come to this place when you are free and with good chit chatting company. You would just get lost with time in this cute lil place.

Teeramisu Cake House

Teeramisu is a new cake house found at D'Piazza Mall. Shop opened back in Dec 2009 and I only got to know about this place two weeks ago. Their hottest selling item is their chilled fruit cheesecakes and Tiramisu cakes. They also sell other items such as buns/ bread and cookies. Shop is located just behind Home's Cafe. It's the only shop opened there. Quite miserable how this Mall turned out to be. It is a huge mall but only a hand-full of shops opened. What a waste.

Anyways just today I bought myself back 5 slices of cake here. Before this I had bought a whole Apple Cheesecake for a colleagues Birthday. Sorry I do not have a picture of the Apple Cheesecake but let me copy a picture of it from the website (see below). It had a nice sweet and sour taste to it and had bits of apple pieces in the cake. Pretty unique way of making a cheesecake. Usually the fruits would be placed on the cake. Some colleagues said it was good, some said sweet and some said nice as it had a sour taste to it.

So back to the 5 slices of cake I bought. First slice was the Mango Cheesecake. The same concept as to the Apple Cheesecake, it had pieces of Mango in the cheesecake. Mango taste was not so intense though, which probably they could improve on.

Second slice was the Strawberry Cheesecake. Not so nice as it sort of had a slight salty taste to it.

Third slice was their TiraBerry cake. Well its a Berry flavoured Tiramisu cake. It was very good. It was fresh, moist, berry flavour was there, and you can get a slight taste of the alcohol. Loved it. Thumbs up. Would be back for this again.

Fourth and Fifth slice...I was being greedy that I ordered 2 slices of Tiramisu since the owner recommended to me to try it out. Said it was one of their hot items. It was good too. Same texture as to the Tiraberry cake. But if you would ask me.....I would say TiraBerry still da best for me.

For all 5 slices it cost me RM 20.90. Pretty alright, but don't expect the cake slices to be as big as Secret Recipe sizes.

Lastly, this place does cake delivery. So its good for me as every month I would be scratching my head on what cakes to order which can deliver to my office. Always have a Birthday party thingy for my colleagues. So I shall be ordering their cakes for a while till we all get jelak of it.

Curry Prawns at Lim Aik Chew- Nibong Tebal

A friend brought me to this place on Monday for lunch. We were on the way back from Damai Laut Resort and we stopped by at Nibong Tebal for some curry prawn feast.

I can't explain how to get there but I have the address as below at the end of this post. All I know is that the shop is located at a row of shop lots (papan houses) type near to a river.

My friend recommended their dried curry prawns to try. He wanted to order the Udang Galah ones (big head prawns) but the shop was out of it (apparently these prawns are less when it does not rain). So we had another type of prawns which were also huge in size. Ordered 1/2 a kilo of it and it costs us RM 35. Pretty alright in price.

Prawns came cooked in their signature dried curry style. Although the curry had a layer of red oil, the taste of the curry was intense and spicy. Quite good.

Since there's a lot of curry gravy you cannot waste on, you can also order some bread to dip together with the curry gravy. Bread was served all soft and hot (just steamed). Yummy yummy.

Besides prawns, they also have fish to serve. We ordered a Red Snapper steamed with garlic, soy sauce, tau chiong, and other goodies in it. It was good. Fish was very fresh.

Then we had also had some vegetable to complete our meal. They had only two choices of vegetable available that day, so we ordered the cabbage vegetable. When served, it did not look appetizing and as guessed it was not tasty at all.

I shall be back here again. Bought back a curry prawn dish for my parents to try out and they loved it. Well mum was suffering away as it was too spicy for her. But they enjoyed it. The left over of curry gravy, mum cooked up a fish curry dish. Guess nothing was wasted.

Ah Basri Satay At D'Piazza

A new satay place which is found in the D'Piazza complex in Bayan Baru. The shop is just after Home's Cafe. I have been here twice and so far, I leave feeling all satisfied.

The shop is a two-storey air conditioned place. So don't worry as the place is not stuffy/ hot, smokey or smelly. You have to order your meal first at the counter before you find a place to sit. Sort of a fast food type of concept.

There's many meat choices to choose from. See if I can name all of it.

You can order as how many sticks you want. The satay is charged per stick. Prices are around RM 1.40 to 2.50 each. But each stick is big and meaty. So no worries. Value for your money.

In my last visit I shared with my colleague 15 satay sticks. We had Original Chicken, Tom Yam Chicken, Deer, Ostrich, Calamari & Deer. All were good. meats were soft and tender especially the Ostrich meat stick.

All this for about RM 30++

Satay sauce is like how the Kajang Satay serves their sauces. Loved it.

Below is the special chilly sauce for the calamari satay.

Aside from having satay sticks, they also serve wraps and rice. Some colleagues had the rice set person. The wraps I would suggest not to order as I tried before and it was not nice.

CNY Makan Part 3- Zhong Hua Restaurant

3rd CNY makan this time with the girls. We all wanted some traditional Chinese Dishes like Peking Duck and Suckling Pig...so we picked this place found at Midlands Shopping Mall.

We were not sure how big the portions would be for the Peking duck and suckling pig, so we did not order a lot of dishes.

First main dish was the Yee Sang. It was a must to have it for CNY. But when the yee sang was served, it looked absolutely different to all the other yee sangs I had. See the picture below....

Was filled with a lot of those cripsy things and what more...filled with coriander leaves!!! Now what Yee Sang has Coriander leaves??? Its a big deal for me because I ain't a coriander leaf person. Hate the taste. So had to pick the leaves out. Good thing the whole dish did not have the strong coriander leaf taste. But we enjoyed the "loh yee sang". A huge portion of the yee sang did overflow from the plate...and none of the girls admitted who did it...hahahaha too excited!

Second dish was our Crispy Peking Duck. Served exactly how we wanted it to be with those pancake sheets, cucumber, onion leaves and hoisin sauce. Lovely. However every bite of the duck skin made us all guilty. Taste wise....well I must say, I've had better ones before. This was alright for me. The rest of the duck meat came much much later in a dish which was cooked with black pepper sauce. It was not so wonderful.

Third dish was the Suckling Pig. It looked good, but taste wise, it wasn't that tasty. The skin was crispy and salty a bit, but it did not have any spices taste to it. Meat on the other hand was rather bland I would say. So I was a bit disappointed. It did not have that "Oomph" taste to it.

Fourth Dish we ordered was Broccoli with Mushrooms. It was nice and tasty.

Fifth dish, we ordered an omelet. It had prawns, mushroom, onions and chilly in it.

For dessert we thought they would have the Peanut Soup and Lotus Paste Pancake, when asked, they said they did not have. Then we asked any special dessert, they only had this white fungus and red dates dessert to serve. Bummer, I could not have my fav chinese dessert.

We each paid about RM 40 each for the whole meal. There were 9 of us. Would I come back here again? Well certainly not for the duck and pig though. However my friends were saying that mornings they sell Dim Sum which is quite good. Perhaps I will come try one day.

CNY Makan Part 2- Shang Place

2nd CNY makan was with my colleagues at Shang Place found at Krystal Point. We took the set course menu which was priced 148 nett. The dishes were not of those 8 course type but we had dishes served chu char style (with rice).

First started off with some peanuts...while waiting for my colleagues to arrive.

Dish 1: Yee Sang
Yee Sang was colourful. Can imagine how much colouring were in those RED and GREEN things. But despite the strong colours, taste wise was good. But funny thing, it did not have those "powder spices" to put. hmmm?

Dish 2: Schezuan Soup
Soup was an extra order from the set. Instead of the usual Sharks Fin soup we ordered the Schezuan soup instead. Was a good choice. I liked it. It was sour and not spicy. Just good for me.

Dish 3: Fish Curry
This was normal. Nothing wow about it. Fish slices had a strong fishy taste to it which kinda turned me off.

Dish 4: Sweet Sour Prawns
The size of this dish was miserable!!! Taste wise, was good but man, those prawns were so small!! There's more vegetables in it than prawns.

Dish 5: Tofu with Dried Shrimp
Normal common dish which tasted alright.

Dish 6: Spare Ribs in Lotus Leaf
This was something new for me. Meat was nice and tender and tasty. Can't really explain how it tasted like, but it was good.

Dish 7: Broccoli with Mushrooms and Scallops
Tasted like any broccoli dish. Scallops were the main attraction here.

Dish 8: Ostrich in Black Pepper Sauce
This was good. Meat was soft and tender. Black pepper taste was strong and good.

Dessert- Peanut Soup with Lotus Paste Pancake
We extra ordered this. It is my favourite dessert which I like to have in any Chinese Restaurant. So you can guess who influenced the rest of the colleagues to order...hehehe. Peanut soup was nice, not too sweet, just nice and lemak. Pancake on the other hand was good too...oh lovely to have this again...!! Mouth watering now. Does anyone know of any good places that serves this? wouldn't mind some recommendations.

CNY Makan Part 1 - Sri Batik Nyonya Cafe

Chinese New Year makan part 1.
First day of Chinese New Year, the family gathered and we all booked a table at Nyonya Batik (formerly known as Nyonya Cafe) at New World Park for a nice 8 course dinner.

Place was packed and service was rather slow. But the boss apologized so it was alright. They were short of staffs anyways. So an hour later dish No 1 came.

Dish 1: Yee Sang
Aunty did the mixing of the various "powder spices" on the salmon and yee sang. Once done, it was time to "loh". We did pretty good and manage not to spill any off the plate. Yee Sang was nice.

Dish 2: Four Season
I only enjoyed 1 of the dishes as the rest weren't my favourite. We had octopus (geli to eat it), deep fried mussels (again I geli to eat it), Jelly fish (geli also to eat it) so I wouldn't know how those 3 dishes tasted like. I was left with the fried wan tans to eat which were good. I was hungry already so anything goes well for me.

Dish 3 : Abalone Soup
The soup had a strong pepper taste to it mixed with a seafood kinda taste. It had abalone slices in it together with fish maw. Was ok for me.

Dish 4: Herby Duck
The gravy of this dish was superb. Had a nice sweet herby taste to it. However the bad side of it, the duck meat was rather tough.

Dish 5: Stuffed Crab
There were a lot of things stuffed, however not much crab meat in it. The special sauce was good!

Dish 6: Deep Fried Prawns
This was my favourite. Prawns were huge and coated with a lovely crispy batter layer. Wonderful. If only I could have had all of the prawns on the plate. But unfortunately I only had 1 piece to eat.

Dish 7: Ju Hu Char
Ju Hu Char this time was a bit disappointing. It didn't quite taste like how it should taste like. Was rather sweet in taste and had crab meat in it. Perhaps the chef changed it slightly for this special CNY meal.

Dish 8: Glutinous Rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf
This was good. Had dried prawns and bits of pork meat in it. A nice dish to finish off to make you full.

Dessert: Bo Bo Cha Cha
It was served hot and I am not much of a hot dessert person.

The whole 8 course dinner came up to RM 600+. Expensive?

Home's Cafe White Coffee

There is a new makan place found at D'Plazza Mall which is located in Bayan Baru- Near Sunshine Square and Sunway Tunas. You can find this new stretch of shop lots just after Sunshine Square as you head towards Pisa. The place is quite huge but so far I have only see 3 shops that have occupied the place. One of it is Home's Cafe.

Place is somewhat similar to Oldtown selling coffee, toasted bread, and other food such as nasi lemak and noodles.I have been here 4 times already. So far what is my favourite here is their Nasi Lemak and Cheese Toast.

The Nasi Lemak here is good. Rice is very lemak indeed with that nice santan smell. It is served with Chicken Curry (lemak also), groundnuts, anchovies (ikan bilis), half an egg and some sambal tumis. Wonder full.

The Cheese Toast here is one of my favourites too and is also their proud specialty. Cheese toast comes in two choices. You can have it with onions or just plain cheese. The bread used is the thick toast type (Bengali Bread) and the cheese used is I think Mozzarella Cheese. So what they do is put butter, some mayonnaise and a lot of cheese on the bread before they toast it. So when it is served, it is all still hot and when you take your slice up, it's like as if your having some kind of sticky cheesy pizza. Lovely.

The other food items I have tried would be their Ipoh Hor Fun. Sorry the picture here is rather blur as I took it using my phone. Taste wise, it was alright. Just how it is suppose to taste like.

Then I also tried their Tom Yam Cintan Noodle Soup. Well I took a sip from my dad's bowl. How was it, this is what my Dad had to say "not sour enough, don't have that kick!" The same goes with their Assam Laksa which my Dad also tried today. Both missing that sour kick-ness.

Another type of toast I tried today was their Peanut Butter Thick Toast. It was quiet good for me. The bread came with crushed peanuts on the bread which made it lovely. Next up I shall try their butter kaya toast and their boiled eggs and toast.

Then here also they have Or Kuih (Yam Cake) which we tried also. It was alright.

For drinks, this is so far what I have tried. Their coffee products here are all Home's Cafe brand. What i found unique is their coffee flavours which they have in orange, strawberry and blackcurrant flavours. Something different right?

Comparing the Home's Cafe Orange with coffee and their Home's Cafe Blackcurrant Coffee, I think I like the orange better. My first visit I ordered the iced Home's Cafe Orange coffee, but today's visit I accidently ordered their Ice Blended Home's Cafe Blackcurrant coffee. I did not quiet like it as firstly, the ice was not blended well. Each sip I took, I had to chew on the ice. Could not enjoy sipping my drink. Then since it was ice blended, the coffee taste kinda got watered down (diluted) that it did not have that strong taste anymore. I think best I stick to iced coffee style and not ice blended here.

The Tea Boutique

Today since Ed was not around, I was out with my parents and we came across this place called The Tea Boutique. It's located at the ground floor of The New Bob Centre along Gottlieb Road. Place is actually owned by Winter Warmers but I do not know why they name the place The Tea Boutique.

The interior of the place gives you a nice cosy feeling. As you enter, there is a fountain and two puppies playing (statues). Then as you walk further in there are cabinets filled with all sorts of Tea Cups for sale. Gives you that English country type of feeling. As you walk futher in, the place is divided into two. On the right side, they have all their tea products on the shelfs for customers to buy. On the left side you will find small sofas for customers to sit. I was rather excited to find this place. It's usually hard to find nice tea time spots to indulge these days.

After going through their menu, this is what we ordered.

It was served with a small champaine glass with a small jug. Just exactly how Winter Warmers serves. The peach tea was good. It had a nice peach intense taste to it and was very refreshing.

Tea was served the same way as the Peach Tea. It had bits of apple in the tea. Taste wise, good but after trying the peach tea...I would go for the Peach Tea next time.

Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich

The Teriyaki Chicken meat was a bit on the salty side but other than that, it was alright.

This was superbly good. Waffle served was nice and crispy on the outside. Topped with cream and two scoops of ice cream, it was certainly a good indulge to drown your sorrows.

Scones were good, but only complain I have is that the butter served was unsalted, so it did not bring out the nice melted butter taste on the scones.

One hot and stuffy night, while I was watching my Army Wives on Astro, Ed came by my house with a huge plastic bag. I was curious what was in it. I asked "what's that?", he replied, "oh I bought myself my laptop" I replied, "finally you bought it". Then in the house while I was preparing his dinner he suddenly whispered to me and said, "actually I lied, I bought this laptop for you" I was shocked!

I have always thought of having my own laptop before. Just liked the idea of lepaking somewhere with the laptop surfing the internet, or lying down on the bed with the laptop surfing the internet.

Now I finally have the chance of fullfilling that thought. Laptop is barely two weeks old. Still overly excited with it. However I still have not got the chance of bringing it out to surf the internet at a coffee house like Coffee Beans or Starbucks.

So currently, Ed is saying I have no excuse now not to blog (he grumbles sometime for my slow blog updates). So with this laptop now, guess I will be on the internet quite often, which is a good sign as I would be updating this blog frequently.

Thanks Ed for this laptop. Love it so much. You're the best.

Louis Cafe Western Cuisine

I have had friends telling me about this place many times but never had the chance to go there until one fine Saturday afternoon I took my mum out for lunch here. It was sort of a mother-daughter day out thing. Dad and Bf were busy. Louis Cafe is located along Argyll Road which serves western food.

We reached there early so we were the first customers to enter. Since it was only two of us, we were limited to try out more dishes. My mum ordered the Carbonarra Fettucini while I ordered myself baked stuffed chicken. The we also ordered a Mushroom soup to share.

The mushroom soup tasted homemade. It had full of mushrooms in it. Lovely. Kinda reminded me of Dome's mushroom soup a long time ago (recently heard that the standard has gone down)

Serving portion for the Carbonarra was pretty huge while my baked stuffed chicken was pretty miserable in size. But taste wise for both dishes were good.

The Carbonarra Fettucinni had Turkey ham and mushrooms in it. It was tasty and really creamy, just how I like it. Maybe with some red wine in it would have been better and replace the Turkey ham with Bacon would have made it super-licious. Mum enjoyed it.

My Baked Stuffed Chicken was miserable in a way because it was the size of a sausage -the sausage was wrapped with the chicken meat. But ignore my complains here, I must say the taste was good. It had a nice herby taste, the meat was soft and tender. The cream sauce with it was also creamy and tasty. Everything was good to the last lick. Plate was wiped clean.

I would certainly be coming back here for more food. Place if affordable and good. But need to find members because Ed ain't much of a western food eater.

Spicy Girl Restaurant

Spicy Girl Restaurant is a steamboat place found along Nagore Road. Came here once with my colleagues. It was highly recommended by them. What is special about this steamboat is that the soup you can have two flavors and you can choose your flavors from the list of varies soups. What is nice here is their spicy fish soup which we had. It was good! A little too spicy for me though but I enjoyed the suffering.

First take a look at their chili selection.

Since we could have two soup choices, we ordered a non spicy soup (I think it was just chicken soup) and spicy fish soup.

The spicy fish soup was good, spicy though but it had a nice sour kick to it. And it had fish flesh in the soup, so before we all started putting in all the ingredients, we ate the fish first. It tasted yummy.

Then after eating all the fish meat, we started pouring in all our ingredients. We ordered quite a lot but being all big eaters, we manage to clean up everything.

I enjoyed myself here. Steamboat was good and tasty. But I do not know how much it cost as my colleague treated us all as it was her Birthday.

They also have a branch over at Kristal Point called Lameizhi.

Harvest In Cafe

Harvest in Cafe is a restaurant found at Irrawady Road (road behind Gleneagles). Came here today for lunch with my parents. The place was really packed but we manage to get ourselves a small table for 3. Becuase it was packed, it was kinda noisy, almost sounding like a coffee shop. We could hardly hear ourselves while talking. Maybe it is the ceiling or something here that bounces back each and everyones voices.

Interior inside was simple. But somehow, the picture above, I kinda liked the bar a.k.a drink making place.

So anyways, before coming here, I thought they have set lunch served here, but when I finally sat down, it was Ala-carte. Prices here are pretty reasonable. Main meals here are priced from RM 7.90 onwards. Reasonable right?

So how was the food........read and you shall know.

First of all, our drinks. We had Orange Juice, Honey Lemon and Good old Sky Juice.

As a starter we ordered the Soup of The Day which was Mushroom Soup. Soup tasted from the can type with just extra mushrooms in it. Certainly did not taste homemade style. But it was nice and tasty. Soup was served with 2 slices of garlic bread at the side.

Then to share, we ordered a Croissant with Tuna and Cheese. Well this was from the Breakfast Menu actually. I must say it was good. It had a layer of thick cheese on top and the croissant taste was up to standard type. Shall certainly be coming back here for more of this. This shall be my favourite item here.

Then for our main meals, my choice of dish was disappointing to the max. I had Hollanaise Herb Fish- fish fillet roasted with herb and served with buttered rice and daily vegetables. When my dish came and when I saw my fish, first thing I thought was "oh it does not look good" The fish absolutely did not look appetizing (see my picture below). The fish had a strong fishy taste and I could not taste any herb taste. Just onions, carrots, turmeric leaves and lemon juice taste was only what I could taste together with the fishy taste.The salad they gave, which had salad leaves, onion leaves and carrots was served just plain like that with no sauce what-so-ever. Aiyo....But the buttered rice served was at least tasty.

The next main meal was recommended by the waiter to try out their Chicken Cordon Blue. Supposedly best selling here. It was served with lovely mash potato and with some salad. Food here is pork free so the ham used was chicken ham.

The other main meal was called Chicken Tikka Masala. Indian food served here???
It is grilled boneless chicken marinated with curry spice served with buttered rice and daily vegetables. Well for me, rating 1-10, I would give it only 4. Mum commented " Taste like Matsalleh trying to cook curry".

For what we ate it came up to only RM 46. Pretty reasonable, but food wise, well for me not up to expectations. But perhaps I should come back again and try out other dishes. I saw some tables having Chicken Chop and some chicken with mushroom sauce which looked good.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

Call us outdated but we both never knew that Krsipy Kreme landed in KL a few months back till we heard from someone about it. Then two weeks ago when we both went down to KL, I went blog searching for Krispy Kreme post and found several. All of which informed it had opened up in Berjaya Times Square.

So we HAD to make our way here to try. How did it go??

Well we only have one thing to say about the doughnuts.....ITS EXTREMELY SWEET.
Really sweet to the max that it got to our head and made us shiver. So sweet that after eating our doughnuts, we were so turned off to eat any other doughnuts anytime soon.

We tried out 4 types of flavours which were Original Glazed, Choco Iced Cake, Vanilla Cake, and New York Cheesecake. Doughnuts were indeed fresh but too sweet.

The New York Cheesecake was interesting. It had like sweet pastry crumbles (something you get from Apple Crumble) on the doughnut. Then in the middle, when you bite it, there is some sweet cream cheese in it. It tasted good but minus the overdose of sugar.

After eating we went to peek at the kitchen and found out why their doughnuts are so sweet. Each doughnut on the conveyor belt has to go through a glazing process!

Well this is a first and last try for the both of us. The sweetness turned us off permanently from ever wanting to have Krispy Kreme's again. This is just what we both feel.

siTigun

If you are around town area and looking for somewhere to have tea, SiTigun is the place to go. It is located in Nagore road. Tigun Wibisana is the name of the owner who has travelled world wide searching for the right place to settle down with his wife Sandra. Finally settling in Penang they decided to open this shop siTigun as a pit stop cafe and also as a pit stop for cyclist. As I quote

"Tigun suggests that you leave your car behind and ride the bicycle over to siTigun café. Enjoy the Heritage Penang Island. siTigun boasts a varied menu of coffee drinks for all tastes and desires. The café is located in the heart of the famous Heritage Nagore. Begin to really enjoy the good bean and the good ife at siTigun cafe."

I first got to know this place from a pamphlet which Ed brought back on day. The very weekend I went out to find the place. Since the I have visited this place 4 times already.

What is sold here?

Well firstly is their varied menu of coffee drinks. He has his own coffee roasting machine which you can spot it in the cafe. I tried his coffee and boy can I say, it is really "kao kao". If you are a strong coffee drinker, this would be the right place for you.

I have tried their crash coffee (known as kopi toebroek in Indonesia or Turkish), well I didn't quite like it as it was extremely strong, thick and without any milk. Also when drinking this, the waiter explained the technique to drink this, you are suppose to stir in your coffee then wait for awhile for the coffee to settle down, before you drink it. Reason to it, well you ought to try it to know.

Then I tried their siTigun regular coffee (robusta), it was also very strong and without milk. Both time coffee came without milk, so I started to ask the waiter which coffee has milk. So she suggested to me cafe latte and cappuccino. Both also i may say were still very strong. After the fourth try, I decided, no more coffee for me here. I can't seem to get use to the strong taste of the coffee. Not to say their coffee ain't good, it's just not up to my taste. Perhaps if you are a strong coffee drinker, you would appreciate the coffee here more than me.

So in my last visit, I opted to try their freshly squeezed apple juice. Hahahah it was as normal.

For tea foody snack wise, they have fresh from the oven homemade goodies such as tiramisu, chocolate mousse cake, madeline cookies, biscottis, croissant and danish roll.

Their tiramisu here contains alcohol so it gives you that kick when you eat it. I must say I like the tiramisu here. It is fresh and good.

Jake's Charboil Steaks

This is the main food highlight in our KL trip. Jake's Charbroil Steaks. Thanks to my Uncle and Aunty in KL, this was a very good meal we both had with you guys.

This place is famous as on the walls you would see a lot of celebrity photos and also our ex-Prime Minister dining in this place. Place has a cowboy atmosphere in it with wooden tables and chairs just like those cowboy towns restaurants you see in movies.

What we were both told was that the beef ribs here were to die for...so we both ordered it. I was expecting ribs with meat, but it came differently, the meat was already "out of the bone". It was good because you do not have to go through the hassle of digging the meat out. So anyways how were the beef ribs???? It was SUPERBLY GOOD!!! All thumbs up for this. So much better than Tony Romas or TGIF or Chillis. The trick in eating this, taught by my uncle is to cut the meat in small cubes before you put it in your mouth. This way the meat melts in your mouth when you chew it. Ohhh I am starting to crave it now.

Enough of drooling over the picture, before the beef ribs came, we had some Oxtail Soup, Potato Skins and Garlic Bread. Oxtail soup was good and tasty with a lot of chunky oxtail meat.

Then the Potato skins were stuffed with minced meat, capsicum and onions. Not forgetting the melted cheese on top of it. It was crispy on the outside and soft in the inside. Wonderful.

Garlic bread was good. It was cripsy and soft in the insides and soaked well with garlic butter. But you do not see any garlic chunks on the bread.

And then here is something that I will not ever forget in my whole entire life. I ate Escargots...well not ate but was forced to try. The gravy where the escargots were baked in was good. It was very garlic-ish in taste. But seeing how it looked like all on the plate, my goosebumps started to stand. And worst off all seeing how it looked like after removing out from the shell was even more disgusting. Why do I say I was forced to try, well my Aunty and Uncle both love eating Escargots and they made me try it that night. Said I cannot leave without trying it...so okla braved myself, took it out from the shell, cut it into half (squishy indeed) and shiveringly put it in my mouth. First few seconds I could get the nice Garlic taste. Then another taste came as I started to chew it. Juices came out...and I just swallowed it all in. Phew....I Did it and never again will I eat it again. I just can't put my mind off the way it looks like. And the funny thing, after I swallowed it, Ed took the other half and swallowed it like a pill instantly. He did it so fast that everyone else was still laughing at my facial expression before they could even concentrate on him eating it. He too would be his first and last eating this.

For dessert we had this caramelized butterscotch cashewnut dish. I forgot what it was called on the menu. It was good. Something unique which I have never had before.

We both enjoyed the dinner that night despite the Escargot scene. Dinner was indeed wonderful. We both shall be back here again for the ribs. Its an all thumbs up for this.

KL Trip March 2009

This was a KL trip back when Jason Mraz came to Stadium Negara to perform. Ed and myself went down to KL for the concert. And as you know where ever we end up, there is sure to be food on our tables. So this is what we ate.

After the concert, we both together with my uncle and cousin took a walk down the street and ended up this place which had really good noodles.
First noodle dish came in a claypot with "bee tai bak" noodles in it with minced pork. It was good.

But what was even better was the second noodle dish. It was superb. It had small bits of pork meat that was crunchy and tasty. A lil bit on the salty side but it was yummylicious.

What's next in our eating spree...well to summarize it I finally had my Kyros Kebab at KLCC.
Damn, why did the outlet in Gurney close down!!!!

For breakfast without fail we MUST always stop by at Pavilion for some Toast Box goodies. Roti Bakar and half boiled eggs!!! and not forgetting their "kao kao" ice coffee.

Then at Pavilion we dropped by this placed called Uhu! Uhu! They had like cute miniature cheese cakes in a cup. Taste wise, boleh-la...pricey though.

Then Ed brought me to this place somewhere in Petaling Street. We took quiet sometime walking around trying to locate it. It was a small kopitiam called Kedai Koon Kee selling really good Wan Tan Mee. First I was a bit skeptical...want tan mee in KL??? Penang should be 100x better. But hhahahah trust me...it was really good!!!I was surprise.

Then just outside, there was this uncle selling pancake in a really old school style way. It was nice and crispy.

Then before we left KL we dropped buy to try out Wendy's. We were both VERY disappointed by it. First of the burger was so tiny! Taste wise, it was that good. Then the major disappointment, Their so called Baked Potato.....my gosh it was horrible. Potato texture felt so grainy and flat in taste...Eeuuwww....

Restaurant Sea Palace

Came here with my relatives one day for an 8 course dinner. This Restaurant called Sea Palace is located in Taman Pekaka area. You will never miss this huge building there. Restaurant is on the 1st floor. Never been here before for any dinner occasions, so this was my first time trying.

Dish 1: Four Seasons
We were served with 4 different types of dishes here all served in a huge plate. The black dish was paddy chicken (frogs) cooked with dried chillies. I stayed far away from this dish though (goose bumbs standing). Then on the left side, it was a jelly fish dish with slices of abalone cooked in a sweetish spicy sauce. The abalone had some fishy-ness taste to it. Then the next dish at the bottom was chicken followed by some fish cake thing which had bits of water chestnuts in it. Pretty interesting.

It actually had a tiny bit of real sharks fin in it and alot of crab meat and crab eggs in it.

Chicken here was roasted I guess as the skin was really crispy. What was unique about this dish was that you are suppose to dip the chicken in the special salt they gave. It was quiet nice.

Something normal. It had brocolli and cauliflower with all sorts of mushrooms

Dish 5: Nestum Prawns
If there is nestum with prawns, it is always my number 1 favourite. Nestum was tasty and had slices of finely sliced kaffir leaves in it.

Dish 6: Mango Fish
This was good. Instead of the whole steam fish with bones, this dish served fish slices (no bones!) cooked together with mango and onions. It tasted good. It had a sweetish-sour taste to it. Something like a kerabu mango taste.

Dish 7: Fried Noodles
The Chinese call this noodles Emperor Noodles (Ong Tei mee). The noodles were fried together with chicken, pork, prawns and vegetables. It looked simple but it was tasty. I loved it.

We had Honeydew Sago served for dessert. It was really refreshing. What they used was so simple; put some sago, melt some vanilla ice cream and toss in some ice cubes. Simple but lovely as a dessert.

So this is about it. 8 dishes tried that night. Food was good. Price I am not sure how much it cost. However am not sure if the place can survive. That whole night, we were the only table there eating.

Batang Kuih

Have you ever noticed this stall just outside of Hutton Lodge along Hutton Lane?
An old uncle sells a kuih called Batang Kuih. It sounds rather obscene though. Anyways this is something like Yu Char Kuih but perhaps the Malay version of it. Preparation of it is similar whereby you have the dough, you cut it, shape it and then deep fry it.

This coffee shop, Tong Hooi has a chicken rice stall in it that sells quite good Char Sui Pork. You can find this coffee shop along Dato Keramat just opposite to Ah Leng Char Koay Teow and next to the Clark Hatch Gym. Stall is managed by an elderly uncle who is very friendly and speaks good english. It was comfortable for me to order here as there were no communication breakdown or no moody attitude treatment here with this uncle.

See the Char Sui's hanging. Yummy licious. What I like about it is that it is sweet and has sort of a strong garlic taste to it. Then it is also crispy on the outside, soft and juicy in the inside. Lovely.

This was our first plate (left: Siew Bak; right: Chai Sui). We enjoyed it so much that we ordered a second helping of the char sui. The brownish gravy here is the special sauce which has some hoisin sauce in it. It goes well with the siew bak.

Rice here is not plain boring white rice but it is the fragrant oil type which chicken rice shops should serve. Chilly sauce here had ginger and garlic to it, so if you are going on a date after this meal, you ought to think twice eating this chilly sauce.

The soup served was a diluted version of the kiam chai ark (sour soup). So it was not that wonderfull.

This is the roasted chicken we had. Chicken was good. Juicy and tasty at the same time. But for me I would certainly come back here for the char sui only.

Baan Thai Restaurant

Last Saturday, it was a Mother-Daughter day and I thought it would be nice to have some Breakfast at Delifrance Bistro at Sandy Bay. I was imagining having Croissants and bread pudding for breakfast that morning. Little did I know when I reached there, it was actually a coffee house for Sandy Bay serving basic breakfast food such as nasi lemak, porridge etc. There were no Croissants or anything close to the Delifrance in KL. I was so sad and disappointed. I went out and I drove to Hillside to Bake and Take bakery for some croissants. instead. Another big disappointment, they no longer make the big croissants but miniature ones which on that day were very few on the tray.

So being hungry and disappointed now, I decided to have lunch instead nearby. Ended up at Baan Thai Restaurant along the row of houses that turned into a food business area along Jln Sungai Kelian.

First time being here so I tried to order as much dishes I could to try.

Belachan Rice

I was expecting the plate to have meat, mango slices around the rice. But it was served all in one, already cooked together. I did ask the waiter twice if he got my order correct. Guess this is how they serve their Belachan Rice here. Looked really like any ordinary Fried Rice. Taste wise, it had some belachan–ness taste in it. But somehow I did not really enjoy it cos presentation wise, I got all disappointed.

Green Curry

This was good. Gravy was very lemak-ish and it had a lot of green vegetables in it such as brinjals, long beans, cabbage. It was not so spicy so I could enjoy it without feeling my tongue burning.

Seafood Otak Otak

It was served in a round shaped tin foil. They used cabbage leaves to give the backbone support for the shape. Pretty creative. It had a lot of goodies in it, such as prawns, fish and squid. Taste wise, I loved it. Very tasty indeed. You could even taste the Kaffir Lime leaves in it. And it was lemak too and the spicy-ness I could tolerate.

Deep Fried Kang Kung

This was good. The batter was nice and tasty and I noticed that it has sesame seeds in the batter.

Som Tam Salad

This dish is made out of young papaya slices made as a salad dish that had fish sauce, lime, peanuts, chilli and other ingredients in it. Some places even pound in small little crabs together. Taste wise, it was good but extremely spicy for me. I specifically asked the waiter only 1 chili padi allowed but it came served with 6 chilies in it. Ahhhhh!!!!! Rocket Fuel for me. Naughty waiter, your not forgiven!

House Special Beancurd

Beancurd used was Japanese Beancurd cooked with some minced meat and a special sauce. It was alright for me.

So these are the 6 dishes which I manage to try. I guess I would be back here again to try out other dishes. So I shall have a part II to this post sometime soon.

Liu Li Xiang Klang Bak Kut Teh

This place you can find along Bagan Jermal just before the Penang Chinese Girls High School. It is called Liu Li Xiang Klang Bak Kut Teh. I have never tried a Klang Bak Kut Teh before, so I cannot compare how it is. So all I can say is how it tasted for me.

We ordered two types of Bak Kut Teh, the dry one and the soupy one. Between both, I liked the dry type better. It has a stronger taste and herby fragrance to it. Where else the soupy one, not that strong taste in the herby department.

As for side dishes, we ordered a plate of prawn mantis cooked with dried chilies. It was good.Followed with Fried Sambal Kacang Botol which was way spicy for me and a plate of special Taufu with the Thai Chilly sauce on it.

Then my eyes caught these small fishes which reminded me of my grandma's fried fish, so we ordered a few fishes. It was deep fried and served while it was hot and still crispy. It looked good, but it did not have enough salt on it. Was not so tasty for me. Was a bit disappointed by it. Left me with a huge craving for my Grandma's fried fish.

So drop by here one day if you are like me who have not tried a Klang Bak Kut Teh. However if you know of other places selling better ones in Penang, do drop me a comment. I am always looking for places to pig out.

I am so amazed by the detailed designs which a person can do. Last week, I got to know cupcakes4you from a colleague of mine. She showed me a picture of her daughters cup cakes which a friend had bought for her Birthday. I instantly fell in love with it that the next colleagues birthday celebration- last two weeks ago, I made an order.

I visited cupcakes4you website and was so amazed by the different designs she has done. It is a young lady named Ms Joo Sing that does all this amazing masterpieces. Do visit her website and see her photo galleries. It would make you so itchy that you would want to order one for yourself.

Below is the cupcakes which my colleagues daughter got. The cake had 16 medium size d cupcakes with 4 3D teddy bears. Here at cupcakes, there is no specific fixed price on the cakes you want. What they do is you give them your design you want, the sizes of your cupcakes and they will come out with a quote for you.

The cupcakes which I ordered for my colleague came out to RM 75. It had 49 mini sized cupcakes with 5 3D teddy bears. Why I stress 3D? Well each 3D design you choose is charged separately. For the 5 teddy bears I got, it cost between 3-5 ringgit each.

Blue Reef Fish & Chips

Finally I made it here to this restaurant. It has been 4 times already where plans to go here were canceled in the very last minute ever since the place opened. So with a few of my colleagues, we were here on a Friday after work for dinner.

Place is rather small so it would be best that you make your reservations the day before. I expected the place to look a bit like Manhattan Fish Market, but it was just plain and simple.

Looking through the menu, I found that there is actually more drinks than food. Food choices here were quite limited. 8 main course, 3 pasta and 5 starters.

To begin with starters we ordered ourselves the soup of the day (Potato and Leek Soup), Calamari Rings and Ceasar Salad.

The potato and leek soup was not that wonderful. It was rather diluted and had not much taste in t. We were a bit disappointed by it.

The Calamari Rings were good. See the picture above and it will get your mouth watering.

Ceasar Salad was good and tasty also. Just the right taste to it.

Since the shop was called Blue Reef Fish & Chips, we tried out both choices of fish and chips- Battered or Crumbed. What was new to me was that I never knew the Westerners eat their Fish and Chips with salt and malt vinegar. The waiter asked us which we would prefer, homemade tartar sauce or malt vinegar. We took both in the end to try it out.

For me I did not like having the fish with the malt vinegar, I still preferred the homemade tartar sauce which was lovely.

Between the crumbed and battered, I preferred the crumbed. But I did not quite enjoy the fish because it had a strong "fishy" taste. Halfway eating, the fishy-ness taste got into my head and I started to become real jelak of it.

Other than the usual fish and chips, they also have fish served with buttered rice. You get to choose from steamed fish with a choice of ginger & soy sauce or sweet & sour sauce.

OXO Cafelab

There’s a new makan place near Queensbay called OXO Cafelab. It is located just behind The House of Dumpling (Parallel behind the row of shop houses where HSBC is) Environment in the restaurant is quite comfortable and nice. It is a two storey building. Downstairs you can opt to sit outside and enjoy the night breeze or be inside to enjoy the cushion seats. Upstairs on the other hand, there is a section with tables similar to KFC and an indoor playground for kids to have their fun time or parties. Then at another section, there were 3 places where you could have a private function to cater for around 10 pax.

Here at night, there is a simple live ban singing downstairs and you can sit around and chill out. In my visit there last Monday, I left the place after dinner when the band started to play. They were singing country music songs. Pretty good.

Service here, well I have two experiences here in just a day.

Monday Lunch

I came here with my collegues for lunch. There were 8 of us. An hour before we arrive, we had placed orders through the phone and OXO confirmed our bookings and orders. We arrived at around 12.15pm. Sat down and I informed the waiter that orders were already made earlier on the phone. As we were seated there, there were a lot of people that day and the workers seemed to be running all over. We waited for 10 minutes, and nothing had arrive on our table. We did inform the waiter and they kept telling us ok ok. Then another 10 minutes passed, not even the drinks or soups were served to us, empty table. So I got up and went to the counter to complain,

I “Hi, how is our orders, nothing has been served, not even our drinks or soups”

The guy, “Mr Boss, I passed you Cheryl’s orders just now, have you keyed in?”

The Boss, “No you didn’t pass me anything.”

The guy, “Yes I did, it’s a blue paper which I gave you that had Cheryl’s orders”

The Boss, “No nothing, I don’t have anything on me. Can you remember her orders, key in the system. I will personally ensure she get’s it fast”

…..sigh they had lost my orders and I had to re-order with them again.

Sat back at my table and waited again. Could hear The Boss instructing the kitchen “Cheryl’s orders fast, 8 soups”

We waited for another 5 minutes, there were soups coming out but were going to other tables. Yea right The Boss “ensure Cheryl get’s her orders fast” was a total bull. We were all boiling inside already. Made several complains again to the waiters and The Boss, all said alright, alright and nothing came. Made one last reminder again loudly with the Boss and 3 soups arrived. Other 5 of us waited for our soups, but instead the main course came out. Made another complain to the Boss “what is happening here, why only 3 soups, and now main course coming out and we don’t even have our drinks yet?!!??” The Boss, “Sorry Cheryl, let me check on this”, then he walks away and shouts to the kitchen, “What is happening to Cheryl’s orders, why they haven’t got all their food yet? Is there no one taking care of them?”

At this time, there were several other tables complaining about their orders and the kitchen was going crazy. Workers were crowded in the corner and the superiors were giving out instructions on what to do. Everything was in a mess.

Finally, the soups and drinks came. But they missed out on the buns, so we reminded them. Bun came later after 5 minutes served nice and hot but they FORGOT about the butter. I think we had made 3 reminders to them for the butter and after a while the butter came all frosen hard when our buns were already cold.

It was a freaking nightmare there that day for lunch. Service was really crappy. Superiors also were not professional enough to handle the crisis. It was a total turn off for all 8 of us. All of us said will not come back to this place for another month or so till their crappy service is fixed. I was so sure to really post bad comments about this restaurant in my blog, but I gave it another shot in the evening again. Brought my mum here for dinner.

Monday Dinner

I told her about the whole crappy service we had. We sat upstairs, the waiter there was good. We placed our orders and before I could even sit for 2 minutes, the soups arrived. I was really impressed. Then the buns WITH butter arrived and followed through with our main course after 5 minutes. I had nothing to complain that night. Service was perfect. Total opposite from lunch time. Like a negative and positive result. Seems they manage to get themselves together.

So aside the service complain, below is what we had. All of us ordered the set lunch which consist of a cordial drink, soup of the day or salad, main course and dessert.

Soup of the day was mushroom soup. During lunch time, the mushroom soup was diluted and not creamy (probably with the chaos happening), but dinner time, it was improved.

Salad was a mix salad with bed of lettuce served with Norwegian Smoked Salmon, Croutons, Cherry Tomato, and Home Made Dressing.

S01- Crispy batter deep-fried fish with potato of the day, summer vegetable and homemade tartar sauce (RM 11.60)

Those that ordered this said it was good. Tartar sauce was good. The potato and vegetable served were all the same for everyone. The potatoes were cooked in butter and had a strong herb taste. Then the vegetables which were broccoli, cauliflower, carrots and lotus roots (I call it pigs nose) were stir fried in a nice flavored way. Had the same kind of herb taste in it too. I liked both of it. At least it was tasty compared to some places where everything is just plainly boiled.

Not sure what it mean ‘sauce with crackers’ but the sauce served, didn’t seem to have any cracker bits in it. Colleague that ate this said it wasn’t anything to shout about.

S05- Grilled Fish Fillet, Emperor Prawns and Potato served with Fresh Orange Butter Sauce (RM 16.40)

The word Emperor Prawns made it sound like the prawns were huge, but when served it was 2 tiny prawns, which the head was connected to a popiah skin roll which had been stuffed with minced prawn meat. Fish slices were grilled and topped with the orange butter sauce. Taste was pretty alright. But the portion was rather small.

S06- Juicy Chicken Piccata with Boxthorn Fruits and Plum Sauce Combining (RM 18.70)

I ordered this for lunch. Chicken meat which was grilled and served quite juicy. The sauce taste was alright not so strong plum sauce taste but it was tasty enough to enjoy. Ate up all those boxthorn fruits which I would not normally eat when it’s in the herbal soups. Serving portion was pretty alright for me.

This dish was a bit misleading. The menu says chicken, but the picture in the menu shows beef slices, so I thought I was having beef, but when it arrived, the beef turned out to be diced chicken meat. Picture on the menu and what was served was totally different. Menu picture also showed some potato chips together and green salad, but when served it was the usual potato and vegetables. I was slightly disappointed. The taste was so so only. Lacked in that “Ooumphh-ness” taste. Pretty expensive also for a sandwich.

Portion was big. Taste wise, it was missing that “Ooumphh-ness” taste. The taste of the gravy wasn’t intense. Could have been better with a bit more herbs to intensify the taste more.

The pizza dough was a strange thick square shape. It reminded me of Pizza Hut’s Parmesan sticks. Taste wise, it wasn’t so good. This is not part of the set lunch/dinner menu.

It came served in 3 cute round pancakes, strawberry, chocolate and original. Then at the side it was served with some green salad. There were 3 condiments, butter, honey and strawberry jello-type-jam. It was a fun dish to eat. Taste wise, ok-la. This is not part of the set lunch/dinner menu.

Ben's Diner Restaurant

Ben's Diner is a restaurant found in Sunway Tunas, Bayan Lepas. It is a place that sells western food the non halal way. Restaurant atmosphere is kept simple with interesting photos on the walls such as the owners bike photos, collectible items such as records and etc. Basically the whole place feels nice and cozy to have a good quite meal.

I have been here many times but never got the chance to blog about this place. Parents and myself do come here quite often as we like their food here.

Our favourites here would be for one, I love their Pork Shank here. Priced at only RM 28, I get a whole braised pork knuckle all to myself. Served with sauerkraut, mashed potato and vegetables, it is the perfect meal for me not only in size but in taste too. The pork meat is nice and tender, tasty with some herbs flavours in it, the mash potato is smooth and creamy topped with some nice tasting sauce, and the sauerkraut, oh how I love it together with the pork. Wish I could have more of it every time. So I would give a thumbs up for this if you are a pork meat eater.

As for my parents, they are nuts about the BBQ pork ribs here. Priced around RM 20, you get 4 meaty ribs marinated and cooked in a special BBQ sauce. Served with some butter herb potatoes and vegetables, it is lovely. However some room for improvement, perhaps a bit of some spicy taste to it would be good. Well it is just my opinion. Thumbs up for this dish. A must try when you come here.**Elderly folks, you need not worry about the meat being chewy. Everything's soft and tender here!

Then as our favourite appetizers or side dishes, we would always order the coleslaw and saute potatoes.

Saute Potatoes is a dish with thinly sliced potatoes stir-fried with onions and some sweet, salty dark sauce, which kinda makes you not stop eating it till your done with the whole plate all by yourself in just 2 minutes. That's how good it is. A must try.

The restaurant is opened daily for lunch except Saturdays. Every day, they have special set lunch meals which consist of a drink, soup and your main course. In my last visit, we tried out two other dishes which were Pork Pasties and Grilled Chicken.

Pork patties which Ed took were pretty good and tasty. Served with butter herb potatoes and vegetables topped with some special brown sauce, it did look good.

The soup of the day was corn soup. It was creamy and tasty.

As the finale to my post, I must not forget my favourite drink here. It is called Lime Freeze. It is lime sherbet ice cream in 7 up. This drink is very hard to find nowadays. I use to have this when at Eden Restaurant (no longer have it anymore) when I was still a kid.

Passage Thru India

Passage Thru India located along Leith Street just opposite to Cheong Fatt Tze mansion serves a wide variety of Indian food with flavours from its different regions in India. On a banner it read that it was the Best Indian Restaurant in Malaysia's Ministry of Tourism and also Best Restaurant in Hospitality Asia Platinum Award.

The interior of the restaurant reminds me so much of Palace Thru India. The way the place is decorated perhaps. However I stress here, Passage Thru India and Palace d'India are two different restaurants managed by different people. I sensed the disappointment when I asked the waiter if they were under same management as Palace d'India.

There was a lot of choose from the menu that made us all confused what to eat. So in the end, to make things simple, we all ordered our own set lunch sets. It was pretty reasonably priced for what was served.

First dish served was an appetizer to eat while waiting for your food. They served us papadum with mint yogurt sauce. Yogurt mint sauce didn't have enough mint taste in it.

It was chicken cooked in rich cashew nut paste served with plain briyani, potato varuval and cucumber salad. The cashew nut paste was really good and lemak in taste. Kinda reminds me a bit of a rich kurma curry taste. The potato varuval was too spicy for me as it was coated with some kind of chili powder. But everything together was good.

It is a combination of plain naan and garlic naan served with oven roasted tandoori chicken thadka dhal and roghun gravy. Served at the side, was some pickled onions to eat together with the food.

It had mutton chunks cooked in mild roghun gravy served with plain briyani and stir fried mixed vegetables. The mutton chunks were absolutely soft and tender and my grandma need not worry about having difficulty chewing it. Lovely.

As a side dish, we ordered ourselves two extra dishes which were prawn masalla and palak paneer. Prawn Masalla was good and so was the Palak Paneer. If you are wondering what palak paneer is, well it is spinach cooked with cottage cheese. A really good dish to have. I bet Popeye would have loved it!!

For dessert, we had our eyes fixed on Kulfi. It really hard to find these nowadays. Well it is actually Indian ice-cream. It is not any normal ice creams you get from Walls or Nestle, this kind of ice cream has its own unique flavour which contains delicate flavour of spices such as cardamom. For me, I would say it is like blending up payasam (other indian desert) and freezing it to become ice cream. Here at Passage thru India, the Kulfi served was way too sweet. It was like as if you were licking off the tin of condense milk. We were quite disappointed with it. If the sugar was cut down to half the sweetness, it would have been excellent.

Koay Chiap Noodles

One weekend (probably 3 weeks ago) my parents and I went driving around town looking for some place new to try out. After much rounds made, we landed at this coffee shop called satu satu tiga (113) coffee shop along Malay Street (Lebuh Melayu). Beats me why it is named that way,...perhaps it could be the shop address. Anyways this place was only selling duck koay chiap and duck rice.

I tried out the duck koay chiap. This is most probably my second time eating this in my whole 26 years of eating. But here is what I got to say of what I thought of it....it was rather tasteless even though it had that dark coloured gravy. Did not quite enjoy it as I was not used to how it tasted like. Well don't get me wrong but other people around liked it as the shop was half packed.

I also tried out their duck meat which was cooked in a braised way. Served without bones and thinly sliced, it was pretty alright for me. I think I would still prefer the roasted duck way. Accompanied with it, we also had some taufu, eggs and dad's favourite, INTESTINES. Everything here was in that dark coloured sauce. So I got everything tasting the same.

On Valentines Day Cornetto had a Show Your Love event which gave out free Cornetto ice-creams to everyone in Gurney.

As I was sitting nicely in Secret Recipe indulging on my Walnut Chocolate Brownie, I got really curious why every on walker that passed by Secret Recipe was holding a cornetto ice-cream. It was rather strange, but I ignored it after a while.

Then as we walked out of Secret Recipe, we saw that there was some Walls roadshow just in front of the entrance, and then I heard this....."Come pass on the Cornetto and get yourself a free Cornetto Ice Cream"

I rushed as fast as I could forgetting any shyness I would have felt and got myself a cone. It was satisfying, but it was rather hilarious seeing practically everyone at the area all standing and eating their ice creams. So I got busy a started snapping some pics of people. But pictures didn't turn out well but what the heck, here are some of it.

Lauee is a fine home dinning restaurant situated nearby the roundabout heading to Penang Hill. It is a restaurant whereby the doors are only opened if you have made reservations, so in a way it is quiet private. So if you want to have a nice and peaceful dinner this is the right place to go.

The restaurant is decorated in a way that you feel like as if you’re eating at home. The whole place is air conditioned. Just as you enter the door, there is a living room where there is a sofa and a TV to watch TV. Then as you walk in, you will see a beautiful outdoor garden/ fish pond right in the middle of the house. Around this area is where you will find a few tables and chairs where you have your dinner. I think it can accommodate 4 big round tables. But there are rooms which I think you can also eat in.

The specialty here is their Shark fin Soup (or Shark’s fin soup). They do not use those imitation sharks’s fin but they ONLY serve you genuine shark’s fin. Quote from Wikipedia, “Shark fin soup (or shark's fin soup) is a delicacy that has been a popular item of Chinese Cuisine since the Ming Dynasty, usually served at special occasions such as weddings and banquets. As a luxury item, the dish is also considered a symbol of wealth and prestige in Chinese culture”

A bowl or rather a “claypot” of the soup cost RM 50 but it is huge which 2 people can actually share. Soup is darker than the ones you eat outside, and it is filled with a lot of chinese mushrooms, crab meat and some egg. And in it you will find a huge chunk of shark’s fin in it. Served with a plate of cilantro leaves, some chili sambal and vinegar, it is up to you to put these in your soup however way you want it. For me, I poured in A LOT of vinegar to it (love it) and Ed took his favourite Cilantro leaves. This was perhaps my first time ever eating real shark’s fin. It tasted good. But I would not take this in a few years time as I felt a bit guilty knowing that the sharks were killed for this.

After having the soup, the other dishes slowly arrived. We had ordered Gooselegs, Huge Crab Claws with Tanghoon noodles, Garlic Chicken, Tom Yam Prawn Soup, Fried Crab Rice and Thai Jelly.

I missed out to try this dish (busy with my tom yam soup) but according to Ed he said it had sweet tau yu taste to it. Looked a lot like chicken feet way of cooking.

I liked the way this dish tasted. Chicken was chopped to small bite size pieces, crispy and soaked slightly in a sweet, sour gravy. It had also a bit of chinese wine taste to it. Then topped with fresh slices of garlic and some cilantro leaves…..it’s so perfectly good.

Following my own tasting pleasure, it was thumbs up all the way for this Tom Yam Soup. I loved it so much. It had that sour taste to it. And it was not so spicy. Really loved this. This is how I like my Tom Yam soup to be!

Huge Crab Claws with Tanghoon noodles

This is the Tanghoon dish which had huge crab claws underneath it. It was really good. After eating up all the Tanghoon and Crab Claws, I saw really a lot of garlic cloves right at the bottom. But the funny thing, the dish did not have any strong garlic taste.

Missed out to take a picture of this. The Fried Rice was good and absolutely tasty. It had a lot of crab meat in it too. Probably the best fried rice ever.

Jelly was white but not almond taste. Topped with some longans, it reminds me of those longan jellys I buy from Soya Bean shops. Nice and refreshing.

Be sure to order it Pizza Bread and not normal bread. This is good. Pizza dough is so thin that when they toast this it becomes all crispy. I can just eat the whole basket to myself!

This pizza is with spicy chicken slices in it. However I could not taste anything spicy about it. It had fresh chili, onion, capsicum and olives in it.

I am not a fan of banana but this I liked. Using the pizza dough, instead of having meat and the tomato base sauce, Ecco puts banana and cheese in this and sprinkles some fresh parsley on it. Love it.

This was absolutely good. Well I liked the creamy sauce it had. But I think those of you who are lactose intolerant, best you keep away from this dish. But serving's rather small I feel. It certainly won't fill my stomach up.

I call this a huge curry puff!! It is basically a pizza dough folded into half and stuffed with tomato, meat- ingredients are the same to your pizza's but only thing the dough is folded and stuffed with more cheese. When you cut it into half the tomato juice just squirts out followed by the sticky melted cheese.

** In this last visit, the service was much faster. The food came out fast even though it was packed. When I peeked into the kitchen there were 3 new helpers helping out. So guess they realized customers have been complaining about the long wait.

East Hokkaido Seafood Restaurant

East Hokkaido located at 20C, Jalan Bagan Jermal is a nicely lighted up seafood restaurant which you will never miss while on the road. Few weeks back, we both got to try out this place with a bunch of friends. We were seated in a private room which had a Karaoke set playing, but we were all too shy to sing.

So our friends did the ordering as they have been here several times before. There were 8 of us and this is what we had.

Dish 1: Fried Pigeons
I chickened out to try this dish and so I passed my pigeon to Ed to eat. It was his first time also. He said that the meat was sweet and tender.

Soup was nice and tasty. It had century egg, normal egg and some leafy vegetables in it. Very nice

Dish 3: Steamed Prawns
Prawns were big and juicy. Steamed with only salt it tasted good. You get to taste the original prawny taste.

Dish 4: Beancurd
Beancurn was cooked in some sour sweet sauce.

Dish 5: Steamed Pomfret
First the dish came, then the lady came with a bowl of plain beehon noodles. At first I thought why, then saw her slowly mixing the noodles together with the gravy in the serving plate. So at the end, you have the fish together with the beehoon which was soaked up with the tau yu gravy from the fish. Pretty interesting. Well it was something new for us and we liked it. Fish was absolutely good. Wished I wasn't so shy to clean up the whole fish (still had flesh in between the bones)

Dish 5: The mother of all dishes!! It is called The 4 Kingdoms
It was a really huge plate nicely stacked up with layers of lobster, crab, squid and lala. The gravy that came with this was absolutely good. It was sour, sweet and spicy. Thumbs up for this dish.

It was really a good meal we had here. We ate so much that we left the place feeling all guilty. We both would like to thank a friend who paid for the dinner that night. We owe you one!

Tried out this place last week. It is along the row of shop houses next to Island Plaza in Tanjung Tokong. It is on the first floor above the Tepanyaki shop. Place sells BBQ meats where you cook it yourself type. A friend of mine said that it is a Korean BBQ food place but with a Japanese style. I quote from her blog she wrote about this place "Kan at the beginning of the name means Korean, Nichi means Japanese and Kan at the end of the name means house, while Yakiniku means grilled meat. "

What was recommended by my friend was to try their beef. So we ordered ourselves 4 types of beef to try.

The first was called Yukee. It was beef sashimi. At first I was a bit ewww to eat it raw. But I braved myself to try out a small bit. My friend squeezed the lemon juice on the meat and mixed it together with the egg. I must say it tasted good. Had a nice salty sauce taste mixed in with the raw meat. But I could only take a bit as I was beginning to get a bit turn off by it. But my friends loved it. I guess if your a sashimi person, you'd sure love this.

Second beef was called Cyu-Tan which is beef tongue. This I could eat because I've always like eating my mum's beef tongue dish at home. The tongue here was sliced into thin slices. You have to BBQ it slightly and then squeeze some lime juice on it before eating it up. Lovely.

Third beef was called Harami. It the beef skirt flank. Meat was already marinated so we just BBQ-ed it and ate it. It was good also. Better if it is not too cooked as it gets chewy and dry.

Fourth beef dish was Zyo Bara which was prime short rib. It was also marinated and we just BBQ-ed it and ate it.

Besides all the beef we had, we also ordered ourselves a pancake called Chichimi. If I recall in the menu, we ordered the Pajyon which was a Korean pancake with spring onions. It is actually egg with some flour cooked with spring onions and other ingredients served like a big round pancake. You eat it with the special sauce provided. It was nice.

Then we also ordered a bowl of Kimchi soup and a plate of Hotate scallops. I liked the scallops. It was huge and juicy. Cooked it for awhile on the grill before squeezing some lime and dipping it in the pancake sauce. It was nice for me.

I did enjoy my dinner that day here. I thought the food would be sky high expensive but for what we ate it came out to around RM 200 shared by 4 of us, each paid RM 50. Pretty alright right?

Fishing Craze

During the weekend, we were both in the fishing mood craze. On Sun morning, we and two other friends made our way up to Tj Bungah (opposite Mount Pleasure) for fishing. We started around 10.30 am and ended around 1.30pm.

I must say our fishing turned out good as we caught ourselves quite a lot of fishes, most of it Gelama's.

We used really huge, fat, long and bloody worms as bait. The worms were called umpun-umpun or Nipah Worms. I am proud to say that I was brave enough to cut the worms, touch these worms and hook them onto the hook all by myself!!!! **Clap Clap**
But thinking back these worms were damn disgusting. And each time you cut them there's so much slimy blood coming out.

This is our spot where we fished the whole time. Place is rocky a bit, so sometimes we got our hooks stuck in the rocks. But it was a really nice fishing spot. We caught really a lot of Gelama's here...but all mostly small ones.

Another Gelama fish caught

I caught myself the biggest fish which we named it the Policeman Fissh as it had a black dot on its side. However a friend said that this fish is from the family of the red snapper. A very rare catch indeed and I was so lucky. I think this is the biggest fish I have ever caught in my whole fishing experience.

Then after the adrenalin rush I had with catching that policeman fish, I caught myself yet another big fish. This fish had thorns and whiskers so I think it belonged to the cat fish family.

Besides getting a lot of Gelama's we did get a small stingray which we let it go back to the sea. It was too small to actually cook it in curry.

Also during the hours of fishing, we did catch a few Puffer Fish. We all laughed our ass off when the fish started to get all puffed up. After all the laughing we carefully took out the hook and released it back to the sea.

Just those few hours of fishing, we caught ourselves 20 Gelama fishes. We were all so proud of it. It was a good day for us. We were all still itchy to fish again that the following day, which is today, we came back to fish again. This time we caught ourselves 35 Gelama fishes!!!

For dinner, I cooked up some of the fishes. Deep fried them and ate them with some vinegar (Phillippino style). It was wonderfull!!!

Gelatissimo-Gurney Plaza

New Ice Cream shop in Gurney Plaza. It is called Gelatissimo. It took over Missy Donuts shop which closed down. Ice cream is Gelato style and the logo writes, The Real Taste of Italia. Wonder how true that is.

Anyways there is quite a number of flavours to choose from and you are allowed to try out the flavours before deciding which one you will have. My favourite is the Belgian Chocolate. It has that dark chocolate bitter taste. Lovely!
