Sushi at Pulau Tikus Market

One of my favourite Sushi places to go at night if I am craving for some late night Sushi. You can find the stall in the alley behind Gossip Corner Drink Stall in the Pulau Tikus Market. At night the place turns into a famous hawker place where many people come to satisfy their stomach cravings with plenty of hawker food choices.

Sushi stall is owned by a young couple who freshly makes every sushi you wish to order. What I like about it is that there are many choices to choose from and some I can say are their own creations. Pretty cool to see the various colours and designs they make. Each sushi is priced around RM 1 to 1.50 or more. Depends on what types you choose from. Also they provide you a moderate amount of sweet sauce and soy sauce which you can eat together with your sushi. Writting this post is really getting my stomach craving for some sushi now.

Tan Kee Roast Duck, Lunas, Kedah

I have been always hearing of this famous duck rice place found in Lunas. So with a small road trip planned with my parents school friends, we all made a trip up to Lunas specifically to try out the duck rice. Call us crazy!!!

Place was packed with people when we arrived at 12 noon. Thank goodness we had made reservations and we got ourselves a huge round table. There were 12 of us that day and we manage to whack down 4 duck, incredible!

The crowd

The duck meat was pretty alright for Ed and me. No doubt the meat was soft and tender, it did not quite have that strong spice taste in it. Maybe we are both pampered with our favorite duck rice stall at the end of Cheong Fatt Tze Road For my parents, they are still true to their Jalan Susu Duck Rice. Well do try out this place to know if you like it. Everyone has their own specific taste in the food they eat. So happy duck rice hunting.

Roti Jala at Hup Kee

It was my first time trying Agnes Keun's Roti Jala at Hup Kee coffee shop. Stall is owned by a Eurasian couple who has been selling roti jala for quite sometime. Somehow I never got to try it till recently.

Hup Kee coffee shop can be found just after the Belissa Row stretch in Pulau Tikus. It is a corner coffee shop with a huge umbrella tree next to it. Here you would find Agnes Keun's stall which is opened daily from 9am to 3pm.

He sells his roti jala in sets which consist of 5 roti jala, curry chicken vindaloo, potato and some homemade pickle. I enjoyed the chicken vindaloo very much. Maybe because it was sour and not too spicy for me. Soaked my roti jala in the gravy, Oh it was gorgeous. Shall be coming back here more often till I get gelak of it.

Annabelle's Place

Annabelle's Place seems to be quite a new restaurant found in the new shop lots along Lembah Permai 4. It took me quite sometime to find the place as I was not really familiar with that area. But alas after 15 minutes of driving around I found it. To my surprise Torch was opening just next to it but it is still under renovation.

First thing when I stepped in the place, I loved the atmosphere here. It had a really nice relaxing old English cottage feeling. See the pictures below and you would know what I mean. Good for having tea and gossip sessions with your gal friends.

The place sells food for breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner. Was browsing through their menu and they have quite a variety of food to choose from. For example, for breakfast they have scones, muffins and sandwiches. Then for tea, they have tea sets for two whereby you have a pot of tea, cakes, scones, finger sandwiches etc all in it, cakes and wonderful deserts. Main meals here they have pastas, sandwiches and 2 local food. Come to think of it, place reminds me a lot of winter warmers, but I would certainly say that the food at Annabelle's place is much much better.

The owner, a young lady who runs the place spent her learning cooking days back in France. She was very friendly and made short friendly chats with us. The funny thing was that we all thought she was familiar but could not guess from where.

So here is what we ate at Annabelle's Place.

Creamy Crab Meat Pasta.
The pasta was tossed with crab meat and creamy lemon sauce. It was really creamy and tasty. It was my first time having crabs in my pasta though. It was good. Enjoyed every slurp of it. Thumbs up for this.

Seafood Spicy Olio Pasta.
Spaghetti tossed with herbs, garlic and chillies, served with squid, prawns and mussels. It was good and strong in taste. But not spicy at all. Not recommended for those who dislike garlic as this pasta dish had loads of it.

Ocean Treasures
Baked crab in creamy mushroom sauce. Served with fresh garden salad and hash brown. It had two crab shells which were stuffed with crab meat, onions and mushroom and baked with cheese on top. It was wonderful. But if your really hungry, this dish would not be able to fill you up.

Creme Brulee
Yes the hunt for the best creme brulee is still on. And Annabelle's Place just got a first placing in my list for the best creme brulee found so far in Penang. Hahaha. Do try this. You'll fall in love with it. Double thumbs up.

Tiramisu
Oh la la this was extremely good. Strong with liquor and just the right taste of everything. It would be a sin if you left the place without trying this out. It's gorgeous. Try it and let me know how you feel. Double thumbs up.

Are you starting to drool?? Well I certainly can't wait to come back here again. This time I would try out their basil chicken (was recommended by the young lady) and their teas snacks.

Here's a picture of the map to get to Annabelle's Place.
Place opens from 11.30am to 2.30pm and 4.30pm to 10 pm. However in the weekends, it is opened all the whole day. Closes on Mondays.

Vintage Bulgaria Bar and Restaurant

A new restaurant in town and this time it is the first Bulgarian Cuisine ever in Penang. Located just next to Ingolf's Kniepe German Restaurant in Tanjung Bungah (hillside) Vintage Bulgaria sure stands out for its unique restaurant setting which feels all so cozy inside.

Place is opened every day between 12 to 10.30pm. We were so early today that we had to wait for about 20 minutes before we could get in.

So this is what we ordered.

For starters we tried out the Shepard's Salad.
It was something different. It had cucumbers, tomato, ham, mushroom, olives, cheese and the special salad sauce mixed together with pieces of hard boiled eggs.

Mushroom Soup.
We wanted to try out the Shkembe Chorba which was the tripe soup, but to our luck it was sold out today. So we ended up ordering the mushroom soup. Soup was ok for us. Nothing wow about it.

Main meals ordered were all meaty dishes, and this is what we had.

Plovdiv Ribs
Pork ribs were marinated well and then grilled. Serving portions were reasonable big. meat was nice and tender, but you have to eat this with your hands. Rather hard to cut out using your knife. All dishes were accompanied with boiled potatoes, cauliflower, broccoli and carrots. Ribs were tasty indeed. Something totally different from the regular BBQ ribs I have tried.

Platter Bulgaria
It had 3 types of meats served for this dish. Sausages (2) which had a strong herb and pepper taste was pretty good. Meat patties that were tasty and the pork fillet which had a strong bacon taste was really good. Not quite sure whether the sausages and meat patties were beef or pork or perhaps mixture of both. but it was good. A real hearty meat platter.

Steak Bulgaria (Pork)
You can choose to have Pork or chicken for this. But we tried out the pork instead. A bit dry inside but had a good marinated taste to it. Good thing it came with topped with a creamy mushroom sauce to help on the dryness.

Then for dessert we ordered a Baklava and Creme Caramel.
Baklava is a sweet Bulgarian dessert pastry which has nuts in it. The pastry is drenched in syrup and makes it all very sweet. It was something new for us, but we found the pastry a bit too hard and rubbery. Had a hard time cutting it.

Creme Caramel
This was absolutely gorgeous.

See the barbarians at work with their pork ribs. Ed, my Dad and Mum

And this is the outcome of the hard work done.

Good place to check out when your wallets are full. The meal today cost us RM 188. A bit pricy though. But perhaps take it as an experience and enjoy the cosy environment. If I do come back here again, I would probably got for the Plovdiv Ribs again.

Oh they do have set lunch for only RM28 which comes with a soup, main meal and dessert. probably more worth it if your on a budget.
