Francis Western Food (Fusion Style)

Today I shall talk about Francis Western Food (Fusion Style). Previously back in 2005 I did have 2 post about Francis. Back then he owned a restaurant just behind Giant Supermarket in town. You may search my blog to read these post last time. The location where he is right now is his third move. He was once in a coffee shop just next to Belissa Row, then he moved to behind Giant Supermarket, and now you can find him just at the corner coffee shop of the Pulau Tikus traffic lights. He is open only for dinner between 6 to 10 pm and closes on Mondays. If you do intend to try out, do come on your own free time as he does take a while to prepare your food. It's a one man show and it can be tough to prepare each dish alone. But trust me your wait would be worthwhile. However a note, do not expect your food to taste like those common western food like the popular Mount Erskine Temple one or the Fatty Loh Western Food or any other Chinese Hainanese style. Francis cooking is a totally different style. Being a half Eurasian like me, his style of cooking is more to the Eurasian way of cooking. And I must say his dishes are somewhat healthy as most of his dishes is baked rather than fried.

The Man, The cook, Francis

First of, for Salads, his Chef Special Salad is good for those who wish to control their waist line. But be prepared as the portion is alot (recommended to share). What is served, well you have some fried chicken slices, ham, chunks of cheddar cheese, salad leaves, pineapples, mango slices/ peaches (sometimes), capsicum, tomatoes & Japanese cucumber served with salad cream. It's good and I love the chunks of cheddar cheese in it.

Green Salad
That night, Dad decided to try other salad which was Green Salad. It had salad leaves, Pineapple slices, Beetroot, cucumber & capsicum, served with an orange colour like salad cream. This salad is the plain type if you intend to strictly eat vegetables.

Mum had the special for that week which was the Braised Lamb. Serving was big again, with about two slices of lamb. It had some button mushrooms, pineapple and tomatoes in the gravy. Taste wise was excellent. Did not have that lamb smell and taste which some people cannot stand.

My grandma on the other hand always likes to eat fish, so this time she tried out the baked fish with orange butter sauce. It looked extremely good. What I like about Francis food that all his baked food is usually (his meat) topped with crabstick, pineapple, sometimes mango slices, tomato, peaches and occasionally slices of lychee. Now this I call fusion. The combination of these adds flavour to the meat when it's being baked. What more it makes it all so juicy and mouth watering. Dish was good.

As for me, I was in a chicken and cheese mood so I ordered myself a Baked Cheese Chicken. Picture below explains it all. See how creamy and cheesy it is. Was so satisfied with the dish.

All dishes are served with a slice of garlic bread, coleslaw and potato. A must try is his Garlic Bread. It is something unusual from the common garlic bread you find. His garlic bread has a touch of sourness to it as he probably adds mayonnaise and some lemon to the garlic butter. And the garlic bread texture is always crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy inside. I would usually order an extra serving of this everytime.

Other recommendations here would be to try out his Cheese Pasta, Moroccan Fish, Chicken Chop, Bacon wrapped with chicken/ fish, Salmon if available, Baked fish with peanut butter sauce, his goulash if available and lamb. Happy trying.
