Jade Pheonix, Crystal Point, Sg Nibong

Shall talk about this Restaurant, Jade Phoenix which is located along Crystal Point at the corner next to Sriwan (Thai Restaurant).

This is our second visit and so far we are both crazy with the Guinness Stout Chicken. It is my first time trying such a dish but is not Ed’s first time. Last time he had it in Langkawi. The chicken is first deep fried and then charred with the Guinness Stout sauce. What is really good about this is that the chicken is sweet tasting and you can really get that Guinness Stout taste and smell. Thumbs up for this. However a little note of improvement….they always serve the chicken drummers (Chicken wing). Not enough flesh lar to enjoy. But maybe the wings soaks in the marination better.

Next dish is the Kin To style spare ribs. Another thumbs up for this dish. Ribs are deep fried first and charred with the Kin To special sauce. Taste wise, taste something like sweet sour mix with pai kut ong style. Basically sweet, salty and abit sour with the onion taste and other spices. It is not hot. A must try to know how I’m trying to explain the taste.

So other than these two dishes, on Chap Goh Meh night we ordered other dishes to try out. First was the Ma Po Style bean curd. I didn’t try this but I think it tasted OK.

Then we had Fu Yong Egg which was normal. Nothing wow. As vegetable we ordered two types, mixed vegetable with seafood and prawn petai sambal. I’m a big fan of petai sambal, but abit disappointed with this one as petai tasted abit raw, wasn’t very cooked as was abit too crunchy. Petai wasn’t cut into half so it was huge for a mouth bite. (they say one must always cut the petai in half to see if there is any worms in it). The sambal didn’t have that kick taste…not enough belachan I guess. But prawns were huge and juicy.

So in conclusion, this is a good place to try out. My next trip would be to try their Fish Head Curry (popular and highly recommended by them) and their salted prawns which the picture on the wall does look good.
