Christmas 2008

Christmas came and went. It was rather fast this year. Next thing I knew, my big fat Christmas tree was already down.

Well this Christmas we had a small dinner party with family. As usual every year my mum will cook up her Eurasian Christmas food which is just absolutely wonderful. The must have dishes are as below.

Mum's Roast Turkey
First I shall show the Turkey being marinated overnight. Mum stuffs the turkey with god-knows-what and Dad does the rubbing. Then the next day she does the roasting. Once it's done she slices out the meat and give it a fast stir fry with the juices and special sauce. This was the meat is nice and juicy. Goes well with cranberry sauce and beet-root.

Leg of Lamb
We usually buy the whole leg of lamb and marinate it overnight. Once again dad did the honors of rubbing in the spices. Same as the turkey, it is roasted and then stir fried. Goes well with the mint sauce.

Stuffings
This is made of bread. The bread is sliced and mashed together with other things like turkey liver, raisins, spices and some other ingredients which are top family secret. After all the mashing, it is cooked till it turns dry. I love this.

Pork Ribs
This was a new dish to have for Christmas. Tried to make it taste like those BBQ pork ribs we ate before, but it turned out a bit disappointing.

Pasta
Basically this pasta dish was for the kids to eat. Mum usually makes her macaroni but this year she decided to change it to bolognaise style.

Grandma's Ju Hu Char
This is my grandam's famous dish. We always have this in any of our food parties. It's gorgeous. Good to wrap it round with salad leaves and some sambal belachan.

Pickled carrots
This goes well with the food to give that extra kick of sour-ness if you start to get gelak. This is well made by Anna.

Potato Salad
Well it turned out to be potato salad cum fruit salad after I put green apples, peaches, grapes and pears in it. Hahaha this was made by me.

Triffle
This is a desert dish. It has three layers which makes the name Triffle. The bottom layer is jelly followed by a layer of sponge cake soaked in brandy. The top layer is custard which is then decorated with slices peaches. You eat this with some cream...excellent.

Chocolate Brownie
This was made by my aunty whom by the way has a blog on her cakes which she makes to sell. Do take a look (Junie's delights). Chocolate Brownie was excellent. Drenched with hot chocolate fudge and topped with a scoop of ice cream, you will never leave the table without a second serving.

Christmas Cake (Reutens Family sugee cake)
Yes another top secret family recipe, the sugee cake. It's wonderfull. Only get to eat this once a year. How sad. Have I learned how to make it....errr....

Liquor
We did have some liquor in da house together with some Red Wine.

After dinner, we got everyone to the sitting room for some family photo and giving out of presents. Little cousin was the cutest when he got his big present. I just tore off the wrapping paper giving no mercy.
