Teluk Kumbar Seafood

Just had a colleagues farewell and this is where we had dinner at Teluk Kumbar Seafood, or also known as Best Friend Seafood (Hau You) . It is located somewhere in Teluk Kumbar area after a long drive pass the airport. Place is nice to go as it is just next to the beach. So you get to enjoy the sunset, cool sea breeze and have sand in your feet.

There were 13 of us and this is what we ordered.

While waiting for the rest to come, we ordered some chicken satay from a Chinese stall selling just outside the car park area. Satay tasted just like the Batu Maung satay whereby the sauce is already marinated and cooked together. So there is no satay kuah needed. I liked it a lot.

First dish that arrived was the Herbal Soup with lala. Since I'm not a fan of lala I just took a spoon full of the soup to taste. Herbal taste was very strong.

Second dish was deep fried squid which was normal for me. Nothing to shout out about it.

Third dish was the steamed octopus. I do get a bit "geli-fied" seeing the tentacles. You eat this with the special chili sauce provided.

Fourth dish, we had a steamed red snapper cooked in Teochew style. Gravy was salty and sour. Fish was extremely fresh.

When the fifth dish came, we had to re-organise the table as there was no place to fit the rest of the dishes. Fifth dish was asparagus cooked in sambal. It was nice. At least asparagus was nice and soft and not stringy.

Sixth dish we ordered a bean curd in on a sizzling hot plate. I expected something special as they mention home cook bean curd, mana tau it looked all normal.

Seventh dish was my favourite seafood dish, prawn mantis cooked in Kam Heong style. I could just eat up this whole plate by myself.

Eight dish, we were beginning to get worried with the amount of food we ordered. It was butter prawns. Prawns were huge, juicy and full of that butter taste. Quite good.

The final dish, ninth dish, we had 7 crabs cooked with salted egg. This dish really got me gelak after just eating one claw. It was rather oily, a lot of butter, and ab it on the salty side. Perhaps a wrong choice of crab style we ordered. Should have sticked to the sweet and sour crab.

It took us about an hour to finish up everything. Everyone was so full. Well, when I do the ordering, for sure guaranteed everyone would be stuffed. The same goes when I cook, I tend to cook and feed an army. Hahahah

So after dinner some of us stayed back to take some photos and this is what we took.
