This is a long awaited post which I always wanted to post about. It is about this Wan Tan Mee shop found in this coffee shop above. You can find this coffee shop in the corner of Church Street and China Street (near Peranakan Mansion). It is called Cafeteria and Hotel Eng Loh.
The Wan Tan Mee stall here is one of the featured stalls in Rasa Rasa. Aunty here sells various styles of Wan Tan Mee and one of my favourite is her Drunken Chicken Wan Tan Mee. Served with some soup gravy, the chicken and gravy has a very strong Chinese wine taste followed by a strong ginger taste. Oh it's fantastic. A must try.
Then another good wan tan would be her Full Jade Gold House wan tan mee. This is a direct translation from Cantonese- well this is what the Aunty gave me since I know nuts about Cantonese. But look at the picture below. This really got me excited. It had two different kind of noodles stacked up. There was a way how to eat this. As taught by the Aunty, she said first, put aside your huge fried dumplings. Second, eat the wan tan noodles first. Third, only you eat the crispy egg noodles below. It was rather hilarious when she scolded my dad for eating it the wrong way!
Next Wan Tan Mee tried was similar to the Drunken Chicken but only thing it had some black mushrooms and the mushroom sauce in it.

Besides this Aunty's Wan Tan Mee, you must try out her shrimp dumplings which are to die for. It's big, fat a juicy. Yummy-licious. She does sell them frozen for RM 7 a packet. Good to buy them for steamboats.
Also in this coffee shop is another stall with the Rasa Rasa article. This time it goes to the drink stall that makes special toasted bread. One of my favourite here is the Roti Taiwan. First they toast the bengali bread with butter before coating it with peanut butter and chopped peanuts. The bread is so soft in the inside. The peanut butter is not so sweet so you do not have to worry about sweetness. Oh it's lovely. However if your coming here for a date with someone special, better you not eat this as the peanut butter tends to get stuck in between your teeth. So to spare you the embarrasement, best you stick to normal toast bread.
This coffee shop is really a good breakfast location if you want wan tan mee, toasted bread and good coffee. Do take note they are closed on Sundays.
