Last weekend, we and the Swift Club members made a day trip up North to Ipoh and Kuala Kangsar. Itinerary was to eat and do some sightseeing. There were 6 cars altogether which convoyed all the way to Ipoh. I just love it when we have these sort of convoys.
We left Penang at around 7am and reached Ipoh around 9 something. We ate at this coffee shop which is the original Oldtown coffee shop. Actually I always thought that the shop opposite was always the original Oldtown. Thanks to an Ipoh person, they told us otherwise.
I ordered myself noodles which I thought was the Ipoh Hor Fun, but unfortunately with the communication breakdown I had with the Aunty it ended up to be normal Yong Tau Fu with Koay Teow (did not like it at all). However Ed had a better luck at this as he opted to try the dry version of this. It was good. Tasted abit like wan tan mee. Also he ordered a bowl of sliced beef in soup which was soft and tender.

Then for dessert I ordered myself a cream caramel. I always love eating this. Comparing to the other coffee shop in Ipoh that sells this, I would say this oldtown one is so much better as it is not so sweet. For drink I ordered myself the Iced White Coffee. It was superbly good. Very strong "Kao", that it kept me awake the whole day.

After eating we headed to Lang Mountain. The picture tells it all on what it is. It is like a huge lake surrounded by a scenic backdrop of limestone hills of Mountain Lang and Mountain Bilike.
We rented a boat to the other end which was a park. The boatman was good enough to give us a short tour around the place and reflect back abit on the history of the place. On the boat, he mentioned that the depth of the lake was 80 meters deep. During the war, bombs were released by the Japanese and he also mentioned that there are still remains of the bombs in the water.
In this picture above, the guide was telling us about the stains found on this limestone. I couldn't quite picture it but he said to look at the black stains on the left side and you will see a lady standing or he mentioned some say Kuan Yin standing there.
This picture above was where some unmarked graves were found which they believed belonged to the Japanese occupation time. Graves were just stacked up with stones undisturbed.
This is the park area. There were old malay kampung houses around here for people to rent for the day.
Picture below is the cave which the guide called it air-con cave. Why because when you walk pass it, cold breeze just fills up the air. The guide also mentioned to us that long time ago when they still had horses roaming the place, there was an incident whereby a huge python swallowed a horse halfway. However the guide said that a Medium informed it wasn't any normal Python but some spirits there who wanted not to be disturbed. So the horses were then removed from this park.
This is another huge cave which they lock up as it leads out to the road. This is to prevent outsiders coming into the cave. In this cave also you can find a lot of carvings of numbers. Guide said to pick a number and play it. Mentioned many have strike before.
Picture below shows a closeup of a limestone with water dripping down. Water must be coming from the mountain.
This is a close up of the first cave which goes really deep in. But we all did think of going in any further. First of all we were all being bitten by tons and tons of mosquito- we called them Kamikaze mosquitoes. They just come from all angles straight to suck your blood. Secondly, it felt kinda creepy to crawl in...what if you meet up with some snakes!!!
Back to the War history, the stone you see in between the tree was used to chop of heads during the Japanese occupation. The stone was carved in such a way that it had a drain that flows the blood down. None of us walked near there to take a closer look.
Lake had full of really fat fishes. Majority were these Prawn shark fishes. Boy would I not want to be swimming in this lake.
By the time we finished with Mountain Lang, it was time for lunch. Since we had some Muslim Swifters who joined us in Ipoh, we had lunch at the Stadium. Did not take any snap shots of food here.
After lunch however, we left Ipoh and headed to Kuala Kangsar. However on the way there we dropped by a bridge overlooking the Perak River.

After the Mosque we headed to the Istana. However since we could not go in, I did not manage to take a good snap shot of the Istana. But I did manage to get ta good picture of the gate.
By the time we finished it was nearly five. We made a last stop for some Malay Chendol and Laksa before heading back to Penang. I kinda liked the Laksa here.
By the time we reached home, it was already close to 10. We were both exhausted after a long day out. Here is some pictures of the cars doing some photo whoring.
